Adam Montgomery is a loan target for Fleetwood Town.

The 20-year-old has just completed a successful loan spell at St Johnstone with Brendan Rodgers having to decide whether he will be part of his first team plans or would be better off going out on loan.

Montgomery made his Celtic debut towards the end of the 20/21 season and is now wanted by his skipper, Scott Brown as he prepares for his second season at Fleetwood.

Playing in League One under Brown would seem like a good move for Montgomery who can play anywhere on the left but was mainly used at left-back by St Johnstone.

At 10.35 in their Transfer Blog the Daily Record reported:

Fleetwood boss Scott Brown is hoping for an early favour from incoming Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers – as he wants to sign Adam Montgomery on-loan.

The former Hoops skipper is a big fan of the left-back and has been a long-term target. Montgomery has just come back from a successful loan with St Johnstone.

Saints would be interested in taking him back again for next season although there are several Scottish Premier League clubs who would also be keen if he was available.

Montgomery previously worked under Brown when he was assistant manager at Aberdeen. Brown may have to wait until he assesses his Celtic squad before he makes a decision on the 20-year-old.

Celtic currently have Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei are the two players who have been blocking Montgomery’s first-team path.

After 26 SPFL matches at St Johnstone Montgomery has picked up invaluable experience, dealing with a change in manager and successfully battling off against relegation.

With his Celtic contract running until May 2025 an outstanding spell on loan in League One could put him in contention for a serious role at Celtic or in the shop window for a move elsewhere.

Liam Scales finds himself in a similar situation, even though he had a good season on loan at Aberdeen there is still a gap to make up to be in contention for first team football at Celtic.
