Dermot Desmond is reported to be heading up Celtic’s search for a new manager.

It seems that the club had no contingency plan in place for the departure of Ange Postecoglou who moved to Spurs on Tuesday- three days after lifting the Scottish Cup to complete a domestic treble.

In The Sun David Friel discusses a worldwide search for a manager with Desmond ultimately deciding on the next boss following face to face interviews in London.

Back in February 2021 Friel broke the news of Neil Lennon’s resignation 11 hours before the Stock Market announcement. He clearly has contacts in high places.

The Sun reports:

Celts are expected to cast their net far and wide before drawing up a shortlist and holding formal interviews.

Desmond tends to speak to candidates face to face in London and those talks are likely to take place in the coming weeks.

Despite having a CEO and Chairman in day-to-day running of the club it looks like Desmond, a non-executive Director will have the ultimate say in who replaces Postecoglou.

Who do you want as the next Celtic manger?

Friel’s report mentions Celtic going to a training camp in Portugal at the start of July before the pre-season matches in Japan and South Korea.

While there are no pressing matches for a new manager to be prepared for the Transfer Window opens on June 14.

Two years ago Postecoglou was announced as manager on June 1 with Champions League qualifiers against Midtjylland on July 20 and 28.

How many times has it to be said ? Friel is an employee of the Sun newspaper in Scotland ! The Sun is on an anti Celtic FC mission in every conceivable way possible and always have been . The type of scoop tales I would expect from the Sun in the next coming weeks is that Spurs want to make CalMac their next captain whilst rolling around on the floor in uncontrollable laughter ,dishing out high fives to each other ! If the Sun stated that today was Thursday , I’d definitely check the calendar ……

Editor: He clearly has a very very high level contact to get every detail of Lennon’s departure 100%. Not many folk were in on that.

The CEO and the Chairman is one role and it’s LIEWELL,Nicholson is a front.
They will end with a nickel&dime manager that should be able to compete with the rookie boss at sevco.
They ain’t going to spend loads of cash bringing in a big name.
It will be a Poundland manager at Parkhead up against a Pounstrester manager at ibrox,or a Lidl type manager against Aldi, that’s exactly the position we find ourselves in now.

  • Scud Missile says:

    Poundstretcher that should be.

  • Bob (original) says:

It’s reasonable for the support to expect that the Board has learned from its mistakes,

in the flawed recruitment process around Lennon and Howe.

Today, we have the same Board members involved; DD and Lawwell.

Are they even capable of changing their approach / behaviours?

Playing for time appointing a new manager does suggest the Board

has been caught napping at the wheel,

and that ongoing succession planning is alien to the Board? 🙁

  • John S says:

If the manager’s departure was a possibility (given his contract) why was there no contingencies explored ?
