Alan Brazil has claimed that Pep Guardiola will have a big say in choosing Celtic’s next manager.

The former Scotland striker provides more entertainment that inside information on his TalkSPORT show but he does have a few folk that know folk in English football circles.

Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca was linked with Celtic two years ago with his name surfacing again after a brief, unsuccessful period in charge of Parma.

Guardiola will have strong contacts with coaches in La Liga as well as knowing the abilities of his own staff with Mikel Arteta making a success of managing Arsenal after learning his trade inside the Etihad.

Listening in to TalkSPORT this morning, The Sun reports:

Speaking on the talkSPORT breakfast show he shares with Ally McCoist Brazil passed on his scoop that “will astonish”.

He said: “I have a wee bit of inside information here. I’ll have to be careful what I say.

“I had a look at the betting. I don’t want to put people into putting a fiver on him and putting it on the wrong way.

But do you know who will have a big say on who will get the Celtic job? This is going to astonish you, by the way, is Pep Guardiola. He is going to have a massive say.

Do you know why? Him and Dermot Desmond are very close.”

Very few people will be familiar with Desmond’s plans for Celtic but the non-executive director has driven previously successful managerial appointments.

Martin O’Neill, Gordon Strachan and Brendan Rodgers seem to have been brought in by the Irish businessman who also had a significant say in appointing Postecoglou after phone call discussions during lockdown.

Since announcing the departure of Postecoglou there as been no further comment from Celtic in their search for a new manager.
