Has the curse of shameless Tom English struck again as Celtic finally ban BBC Scotland?

In a surprise move Celtic refused BBC Scotland access to today’s media conference introducing Brendan Rodgers as manager.

With Kenny Macintyre and Steven Thompson fronting radio and television coverage there has never been any doubt the allegiances of the state broadcaster.

Backed up by Neil McCann, Richard Foster and Kenny Miller alongside Jane Lewis and Alasdair Lamont there would no doubt have been celebrations at Pacific Quay when Ange Postecoglou quit Celtic to manage Spurs.

Outdoing all of them however with his hostility to all things Celtic is their chief sports writer- Tom English. Apparently a rugby writer he has never been near a decent football story in almost 30 years covering Scottish football which has been highlighted by cheerleading Craig Whyte and Anne Budge.

Last year BBC Scotland had to apologise for English’s attack on Celtic for paying their respects following the sudden death of Shane Warne.

Rather than decide to mellow his views or keep his dislike for Celtic to his private life English weighed in with an incredible personal attack on Rodgers as soon as his appointment was confirmed. In fairness to the writer he does have a real grasp of the term shameless.

Now, according to the Daily Record who have been known to get things wrong before, that over the top attack which looks to have been gleaned from Follow Follow resulted in today’s ban by Celtic.

Record Sport understands that the decision was taken following comments made in a BBC Scotland pundit’s column that offered a critical viewpoint of Rodgers’ appointment. It follows some fans being angered by the appointment after he ended his first spell midway through the campaign to join Leicester City.

Being forced into another public apology to Celtic for English’s comments could force BBC Scotland to restrict their Chief Sports Writer into only commenting on egg-chasing.

Brendan is a Celtic employee, so if they have spoke I’ll of him, have no more to do with that sevco outfit.

He really is a complete bell end.

About time. Ange had them sussed and gave them it. So good news that they have stood up.

  • Bob (original) says:

Banning the BBC access for good would be no loss.

In fact, now that the SMSM has had their re-introduction to BR,

just ban the lot of them for the duration?

An opportunity to reset the relationship with the highly biased SMSM?

Payback has been a looong time coming!

lets hope celtic deal with the bent refs next

  • Mickybhoy71 says:

Charge every single smsm outlet £20k for the year for access to the players and manager, then give it to the celtic foundation.

  • Robert Jenkins says:

I think people don’t realise that now we’ve banned the BBC they will only give us negative coverage…OH WAIT!!!!!!

  • Jay Walker says:

Absolutely brilliant. Well done Celtic. At the Muse gig in Bellahouston right now, but this has delighted me more than the gig. Well done and don’t reverse the stance until there is personnel changes both front and backroom at the so called state broadcaster… we’re paying for their sh@te

I’ve had occasion to complain to the BBC about their prejudicial coverage of Scottish football. They’re not very receptive (despite the fact I pay their wages) and unwilling to even consider analysis or change.
Whatever the reason, I’m very happy that the club is standing up to bias. It is insidious within the media, bad enough in Scotland, but sometimes proffered in the BBC’s UK coverage as well.

  • Mr Vincent McSherry says:

recently the three “pundits” on Sportscene were all ex rangers! Dont yu think we’ve got the message?

  • Amcq14 says:

Not just one outlet but two were banned today. Have our board of management actually grown a pair of balls. I hope so and this is the start of a new era that the smsm didn’t see coming. I have been lambasting the fact that our board like to tell us their on it (ridiculous VAR decisions etc) but they do it privately, also fair enough but I want to know the outcome of these behind the scenes debates. Still waiting. Only one man took the SFA to task and I dip my bunnet to him. I would hope we’re now seeing a different tact to dealing with the smsm and not before time. Now onto the bigger agenda the SFA. We as celtic supporters want transparency whenever you deal with them as we Fergus wiped the floor with them. About time you did too.

About bloody time. Should’ve been pulled about the pro Sevco coverage a long time ago. BBC Bluenose Broadcasting Cabal(Sevco) close the Sevco cesspit down. It won’t be missed.
