Less than six months into the role of ‘non-executive’ Chairman Peter Lawwell can’t resist the opportunity to push his way into the spotlight.

Celtic kept the announcement of Ian Bankier’s successor very low key, there was nothing on social media except for a statement on the club website mentioning the non-executive nature of the role.

There was no interviews with club media, Twitter and Instagram remained silent with critics having to discuss the appointment among themselves.

With Michael Nicholson yet to give any sort of interview after 21 months as CEO there is a void in Celtic communications with Lawwell easing himself back into the saddle.

At last month’s SFA Youth Cup Final at Hampden he was all matey with Ange Postecoglou sending out a not so subtle message about his non-executive return. Strangely he seems to have been wrong footed by the career moves of his Australian mate.

In close to 20 years as Celtic CEO Lawwell has never been seen wearing anything other than a shirt, mostly formal and mostly wearing a club tie. There have been no pictures lurking around the training ground wearing a club polo of squeezing into the latest kit from Nike, New Balance or Adidas.

Over the last week Istanbul has been the focus for corporate football- every sponsor, agent, CEO and media type worth their salt have been in town networking on free lunches.

After nine years on the Executive Board of the European Club Association the Celtic chairman knows the movers and shakers in the game with Scottish football increasingly marginalised, on Lawwell’s watch.

Celtic are currently manager-less with memories still fresh of the December 2020 Managerial Review and the 100 plus day search for Neil Lennon’s successor.

One man delivered Ange Postecoglou to Celtic, a persistent agent with a hot ticket client. If anyone deserves credit for that appointment it is Frank Trimboli who was no doubt very busy over the weekend pushing the case for his clients.

Will Lawwell and Nicholson recruit a replacement of the same calibre as Ange Postecoglou?

Yes, they have learned from past mistakes, Ange sets a standard

Should never have been allowed back at the club, are we ever going to be rid of this parasite.
It won’t be long before everything is back the way it was before he left.

Celtic FC run like a corner shop business.

Have DD and the rest of the Board been ‘economical with the truth’ to the support about Lawwell’s role?

The growing perception is that Nicholson is just like Maxwell at the SFA:CEO in name only?

At least Maxwell occasionally speaks to the media! 🙁

    Joe,
With all due respect, stop reporting on Peter Lawwell as your bias (along with the unforgivers) shines brightly on your comments.
As I said, with all due respect.

    Pat

Editor: I will state my own opinion on the man that told Shareholders that he had never seen the Five Way Agreement. The man that grew his salary from £280,000 to £3,500,000 while turnover rose from £67m to £83m over 16 years.

The man with no ambition beyond supporting his beloved O** F***.

No respect from me, you’ll find others like yourself cheering away on CQN.

Any orders for me Pat, Sir?

What a poor read this was, if you wanted to see what law well was doing investigate he was their as uefa elite teams where meeting all the top team owners chairmen chief executive were there. Peter lawwells fault is he has backed every manager that Celtic has had f you want to about ange and his agent they were moving Ange as soon as Conte left spurs

Editor: Fat lot of good Lawwell has done for Celtic on the ECA as Champions League access gets tougher every year. No UEFA knock-out victories since 2004 while Cluj, Malmo, Maribor, Ferencvaros, AEK Athens, Molde, FC Copenhagen and Sparta Prague reserves party in the away dressing room at Celtic Park, cheers Pete.

On the contrary. It points to where Lawwell’s ambitions are placed!
It is no secret that Celtic are back in the UCL this year. So, Lawwell is visiting past hunting grounds, obviously with a view to re-establishing old (boy) aquaintinces.
          As we all know
“It Is Not What You Know, But Who You Know”!
Meanwhile Celtic struggle to put a credible Candidate List together, for the key post of
          “Manager Of The Football Club”!
