Celtic’s B team came good last night as they beat Caledonian Braves 5-1 in a scoreline that flattered the visitors.

On Saturday the young hoops lost 1-0 at Cumbernauld Colts which followed a struggle for goals through three pre-season matches against Fraserburgh, Sligo Rovers and Alloa Athletic.

Caledonian Braves opened their campaign on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Berwick Rangers but were out of their depth last night.

Particularly in the second half Celtic played good incisive football but the artificial surface doesn’t lend itself to good play. Trying to turn quickly isn’t advised with a couple of the young Celts falling flat out or getting injured as they tried the moves that would be natural on grass.

Bruno Davidson opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he followed up on a blocked shot by Michael Frame to net from eight yards out.

The Braves levelled five minutes later but Ben Quinn showed good awareness in the box to tick a low angled shot beyond the keeper to put Celtic ahead in the 28th minute.

With a 10 minute spell early in the second half Quinn scored his second with Lewis Dobbie also scoring twice, the only disappointment was that the scoring ended in the 63rd minute.

On Saturday Celtic B are at home to Cowdenbeath, next Wednesday they’ll face a tough test at home to big spending East Kilbride with Si Ferry in the visitors dug-out.

CELTIC: Clarke, Dede (Osagie 82), Frame (Hale 64), Agbaire, Robertson, Ure, Davidson (Hatton 84), Carse, Dobbie, Thomson (Haddow), Quinn (Bonnar 64)
Subs: Morrison
