Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he regularly exchanged text messages with Brendan Rodgers- while he was managing Celtic.

The Irishman was in charge of Leicester until the start of April but kept up a line of communication with the future Spurs boss.

There is only a very small group of people that understand the pressures of managing Celtic- those that have been in the job such as Martin O’Neill, Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon.

The reaction to Rodgers leaving Celtic in February 2019 made a return to the hoops seem nearly impossible but in football nothing can be ruled out as the events of spring 2023 proved.

Several moving parts dropped into place as a frustrated Anonio Conte left Spurs, Leicester decided to part company with Rodgers with Postecoglou’s Celtic exit paving the way for an unexpected return to Celtic for the boss that delivered seven trophies out of seven first time around.

Asked about his successor, The Daily Record reports Postecoglou saying:

He’s absolutely the right man, mate. He’s a fantastic manager and he loves that football club.

He was constantly messaging me while I was Celtic manager to make sure that I stayed on track and we had success. I’ve exchanged messages with him and he was very, very supportive when I got the (Celtic) role.

Even when I got this role, he sent me a nice message and I reciprocated and stayed in contact with him and all the staff there. I’ve no doubt they’ll have great success.

Hopefully, they can make an impact in the Champions League, I know that’s what his ambition is. That group of players and staff certainly have the capability to do that.

While Postecoglou was facing the media today, Rodgers was in the Algarve putting his squad through demanding training sessions with his first public friendly match just nine days away.

“That Group Of Players And Staff Certainly Have The Capability To Do That.” (Make a mark in Europe?)
I wonder if Ange had crystallised his thoughts on this matter before he departed Celtic?
He himself may have been hoping to do the same at Celtic!
Perhaps he found out that there wasn’t an expectation of that being an ambition at Celtic and maybe that was part of his reasons for moving on!
Doing well in the Champions League is difficult. But it is not impossible.
We have done the impossible before!

We could have given Postecoglou a budget of £70m for next season.

      He would still have left.

He moved on, so do we.

He moves on, we move on.
Yes, but we have appointed Rodgers before. He couldn’t crack Europe the last time, so how is he going to crack it this time?
Gordon Strachan, on paper, would have been a better appointment because he has a much better record in Europe. He got us out of the Groups on two occasions.
So, has our ambition in Europe been put over on the shelf, so that we could appoint Rodgers again?

Lawwell is rotten! Those who support him must know that!

  • the maister says:

Lawwell is a loser!. We all know that! It isn’t a secret.
What they don’t want you to know is that he has a skill-set the equivalent of a parrot!
