Matthew MacDermid will referee the Celtic v St Johnstone match on Saturday, the first time that he has been in charge of the hoops.

The Lanarkshire based whistler has been working his way through the ranks with a Celtic home match at home to a side in the lower reaches of the Premiership a fairly safe option to see how he copes with a massive crowd.

So far this season he has taken charge of three League Cup ties plus one Premiership and one Championship fixture.

Both teams go into the match with 100% records, as well as losing to Hearts and Ross County Saints boss Steven MacLean’s side failed to advance from their League Cup group, losing at home to Stirling Albion and Ayr United.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to avoid any further injuries after losing Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki over the last 10 days.

Andrew Dallas will be the VAR official for Saturday’s match.
