The Daily Record is still banging the ‘Leeds swoop for Kamara’ drum despite three wasted years trying the same story with Ryan Kent.

Record readers are being treated to a third hand tale of how Daniel Farke wants to build his promotion bid around a former Dundee midfielder that had 18 decent months at Ibrox but who has fallen to ninth choice midfielder behind talents like John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Todd Cantwell.

A move for Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean seems more likely with Leeds picking up just one point from their first two Championship matches.

Kamara has been on the verge of a transfer for about three months with no sign of genuine interest, the media price tag of £5.5m is hardly likely to have clubs rushing to the negotiating table.

The latest yarn started on the Goal website, was picked up by The Sun with the Record rushing to publish:

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is reportedly closing in on a £5.5million transfer to long-time admirers Leeds United.

The 27-year-old has been on the outside looking at Ibrox this summer with boss Michael Beale admitting his time at the club was nearing the end. And now the Finland international is poised for a move to Elland Road. The Scottish Sun state Kamara’s representatives have also held talks with Middlesbrough and Coventry City but Leeds are the favourites to seal a move for the man who joined the Ibrox side for a £50,000 snip in January 2019.

Kamara was a key contributor under Steven Gerrard but has found himself a bit-part player before being left in reserve over the summer with the emergence of Nico Raskin and the arrival of Jose Cifuentes from LAFC. And now Kamara’s time at Ibrox will end and a significant fee to be garnered for a player with two years remaining on his current deal.

Leeds, Coventry and Middlesbrough won’t be spending £5.5m on any player in the last nine days of the transfer window, certainly not on someone who checked out a year ago and hasn’t played in any pre-season friendlies or competitive matches.

Kamara, Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright are expected to go out on loan next week with Tillman type conditions applied to their moves.
