Grant Irvine will referee Celtic for the first time when he takes charge of Saturday’s match against Hibs.

Last season he took charge of nine Premiership fixtures and appears to be getting the fast-track treatment from the SFA with a Celtic home match a big step up from the Raith Rovers v Cliftonville Challenge Cup tie that he had at the weekend.

So far this season he has only refereed one Premiership match, sending off Paul McGinn in Motherwell’s 1-0 win away to Hearts on September 3.

Iain Sneddon, who has never been in charge of a Celtic match will be the fourth official with Steven Kirkland on VAR duty.

Following the win at Ibrox Brendan Rodgers will be keen to build some momentum but it will be later in the week before he can start putting his thoughts into the team to select.

International commitments have scattered players far and wide with Friday likely to be the only day with a full squad in training.

Liel Abada will miss out through injury, Reo Hatate is available again with a big decision to be taken over whether Nat Phillips comes in to replace Liam Scales or Gustaf Lagerbielke after their starring roles at Ibrox.

    We’re playing Dundee not Hibs

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Grant Irvine – Certainly not a Celtic-y type name although that goes for nothing as all Celtic supporters anyway) want is fairness, not favours and the laws of the game applied fairly to ALL teams… (I know, I know, this is Scotland we’re talking about) !

Anyway – He must be given a chance…

But if he makes game changing errors (ala Muir and Robertson at Kilmarnock) – Just don’t expect any backlash from these cowardly yellow old men in grey suits that are our so called custodians…

Brendan could be more vocal about this as well – especially if against all odds we overcome the cheats and win –

The Sevco Board will always put their Celtic counterparts to shame regarding errors by officials – Sadly –

Sounds like another masonic chancer in the long history of SFA cheats

  • Thomas M Daley says:

So honest mistakes and inexperienced operating persons overlooked genuine fouls, penalties and sending offs, whole giving wrongful penalties, fouls and sending offs.
Move along nothing to see here.

we all know that sevco and beale scraped through last seaon to finish second with the help of the refs , and to their eternal shame , the heat is on this season for them , drawing attention to the facts that no penalty was given against sevco in 58 league games while been given one per game almost last season , that could not continue , celtic are watching and waiting in the wings for this season , where it will be impossible to pull the scam 2 years running without censure coming from the club , the refs are also aware , and i believe they know beale is a bluffer and will be happy for him to be gone as the sevco fans are , they won’t take anymore heat for beale and his band of all sorts , especially for the long season ahead i reckon , interesting times

Cant be eorse than any others got var to stop honest mistakes if it wasnt for var last celtic premier game they would have been a goal down by referee mistake and to hear some pundits agreeibg with the refs first judgement makes it worst ive senn penalties given when defending team do it in area it was bad refereeing that caused the headlines nothing about how well Celtic played how kyoko and Celtic were denied a penalty butlands pushing him to the ground only for him to get up and goldson pushing him to the ground if var had looked at it we will never know and if not why to not tell public why and why nothing mentioned by media very strange but theres a lot of strange decisions why sfa refuse to clear these thing up dont others not want to know why these things arent explained referee was brave to admit his mistake and correct it in front of a jyst under 50,000 supporters home supporters only and hostile from start to finish

  • Ciaran 72 says:

Does Mr Irvine have one of those strange handshakes?

  • John mcghee says:

Wonder why the ref has been changed eh is it so if the ref makes honest mistake the corrupt sfa spfl can always say he’s new to the game give him time all because CELTIC took 3 points last week at cheating liebrox this new ref will try his best to make sure CELTIC drop points we can only wait and see what like the ref is at paradise
