There is no transfer war-chest set aside for Phil Clement in January.

During the summer the Ibrox board came up with £15m to fund Micky Beale’s Revolution with just token fees coming in for Glen Kamara and Fashion Sakala.

With most of Beale’s signings sitting on four and five year contracts his successor will have to find a way of getting something out of flops like Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes.

A year ago the Ibrox coffers were relatively healthy after reaching the Europa League Final, qualifying for the Champions League and picking up £20m from the transfers of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo.

None of those sources has surfaced in 2023 with James Bisgrove admitting yesterday that any transfer fund will need to come from further share issues:

Philippe will make an assessment on the squad to identify how we increase performance and improve results and Philippe will give an assessment to the board where he sees the strengths and weaknesses. I believe the board and investors will be receptive to his feedback in terms of the improvements required. Clearly, there has been investments this summer, but the standard and the bar here is very high. We want to win silverware. Philippe is here for that, that’s why he’s picked Rangers over possibly other options.

After losing Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent as free agents in the summer Clement will have to decide quickly on the futures of Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram and Leon Balogun. Jack is currently injured with a sore leg.

Three of the next four Glasgow Derby SPFL fixtures will be played at Celtic Park.

sevco have confirmed that there IS a point in flogging a dead horse. What?

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

The next club they play away from Liebrox (Do Sevco actually play away from there these days) should just troll them by playing over their tannoy…

‘Money’s too tight to mention’ by Simply 32 Red !!!

  • John Copeland says:

What they need is a Hedley Lammar type of official out of ‘Blazing Saddles ‘ to come up with a ‘snatch ‘plan to make them money . The guy has to be totally unscrupulous, incompetent ,but requiring a dodgy piece of the pie himself …a provincial putz,as it was stated !

  • Bob (original) says:

Even if Clement can’t make a rapid turnaround in the team’s performances,

you’d think he must be guaranteed until this time next year to remain in post,

and his agent will have structured his contract [& pay-off] accordingly?

If/when the bears are growling at Clement at ibrox this season,

Bennett & Bisgrove are just going to have to keep their heads down!

Things could get very interesting / nasty at Ibrox sooner than we expect…? 🙂

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Hopefully on Saturday Bob (original) – But Robertson will have been well pre warned by Allan Crawford or whatever that Head of Cheats with whistles, flags and monitors is called…

  • the maister says:

There’s potential for a culture clash there, between Clements and Rae and Davis? Just sayin’!

  • Davie says:

Clement is guaranteed at least 2 years.
The players he has inherited and the contracts they are on are detrimental to any plan he has.
He could work a miracle, Like The Great Jock Stein did, however he doesn’t have a team of Scottish players to work with.
Ibrox fans will just have to accept anything Clement achieves.
That may be nothing as he has little to start with.
The Rangers are a club who have actually done well since their inception during the summer of 2012.
The Rangers wish to emulate a previous club called Rangers, well they can do so if they want, that club died through spending money they didn’t have and not paying their bills.
Clement and any manager joining The Rangers should research the clubs finances from current and past teams playing out of ibrox.
Clement was not first choice but was once again the cheapest option.
