Barry Ferguson is consoling himself with the view that Philippe Clement was the choice of Graeme Souness to succeed Micky Beale in charge of the Ibrox Tribute Act.

Fears that James Bisgrove and John Bennett were wholly in charge of recruitment process were allayed when it was leaked that the former Sky Sports pundit was involved in the process.

That picture of unity provided plenty of comfort to bears as the decision boiled down to Kevin Muscat or Clement.

On Sunday Souness’ name was included in the media release announcing the appointment of the Belgian, unfortunately on Monday morning Jim White let slip on TalkSPORT that Frank Lampard was the choice of his close buddy Souness.

Completely ignoring that issue Ferguson shared his Souness joy with Daily Record readers, explaining:

It’s been interesting to hear from James Bisgrove on how he and the board sought out Graeme Souness’ advice and assistance while going through the interview process.

From what the chief executive has told us, it seems like my old Blackburn boss and the Belgian went at it during their talks in London, exchanging views and challenging each other on how they see the future of Rangers panning out.

And believe me, anyone who can stand up to Graeme Souness and hold their own when he’s in full flow deserves serious consideration. I was really excited to sign for Souey when he asked me to join him at Ewood Park back in 2003.

Souness hasn’t been involved in management since being sacked by Newcastle United in February 2006, a year after splashing out £8m on Jean-Alain Boumsong from his old pal Dave Murray. Boumsong played 18 matches for Rangers.

Ah ,they all are on message ,aren’t they ? I mean the last thing that they need in Govan land is differing excuses and annoyances about the newest manager . That’s the type of verbal explanations that have to be left to the end . The i told you so’s ! The ‘ nobody listened to my warnings ‘ garbage ! The guy was brought in on the cheap with a budget tighter than a brown jockstrap …. and they still can’t see the forest for the trees !

According to the SMSM, over the last few day’s, Their manager will reinvent the game here as we know it, The goalkeeper is the best signing in Scotland in the last decade, A defensive midfielder (who has played less than 60% of their games) is deemed to be in the same company as Rodri & Co….. ah yes and Tik Tok is now a life long Ranger, no matter what happens in the future…..

However ALL the media bluster means nothing as the manager across the city is excellent and also has money to spend…..

Why does everyone Fergushun describe end in ‘y’ –

MuscY for Muscat – SoueY for Souness – CoistY for McCoist…

It’s ok between Scottish buddies I guess in fact we’ve all got nicknames at ma bit plenty ending in ‘Y’

But to write it in a ‘newspaper’ and get handsomely paid for it no doubt ?

Then again it is The illiterate Daily Record – so enough said I guess !

what kind of discussion was it when he had to stand up for himself against souey ?. was souey in full flow giving it the dundee hamilton verse ?. are we supposed to believe this nonsense. why does this idiot get various media sites it really is beyond pathetic.

  • Bob (original) says:

Thought that was a smart move to involve Souness.

Gives the impression that it wasn’t just Bennett & Bisgrove deciding on their own.

Plus, if/when it goes pear shaped with Clement the Blue Room can spin it,

in the SMSM, that they sought the best advice – what else could they do?

    And Souness will be pleased.

How much did he charge for a couple of days ‘consulting’ ?

    £10K / £20K ? Well, he certainly wouldn’t have done it for free. 🙂
