The race is on to become the Rainjurz-man on Philippe Clement’s backroom staff at Ibrox.

Yesterday the Ibrox board agreed to a three and a half year contract for the axed Monaco boss who brought Stephane van der Heyden in as assistant on his Easyjet flight to Edinburgh yesterday.

Clement has no experience of Scottish football although he did manage to play 12 games for Coventry City in 1998 before being found out.

Coming into a club two months into the season is never easy but lumbered with Micky Beale’s squad and the demands of angry bears piles the pressure onto the 49-year-old Belgian.

Getting a true blue beside him in the dug-out will go down well with the hordes on social media with Chris Jack of the Rangers Review feeding them the news that they want to read:

Rangers will look to hire a coach with an affinity to the club and a knowledge of Scottish football to assist new boss Philippe Clement.

The Belgian was appointed as Michael Beale’s successor on Sunday morning as he put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract at Ibrox.

Clement will be joined in Glasgow by Stephane van der Heyden and further announcements regarding the make-up of his backroom team are expected in the coming days as he prepares to hold talks with the interim management team of Steven Davis and Alex Rae. Goalkeeper coach Colin Stewart will be retained as part of the new-look staff.

An affinity to the club could open the door to David Martindale or Robbie Neilson as well as the vast pool of pundits on BBC Scotland.

Kenny Miller, Neil McCann, Kevin Thomson and Lee McCulloch are all looking to get back inside Ibrox although Alex Rae looks to be in pole position after assisting Steve Davis following the sacking of Beale.
