Normally Brendan Rodgers is picking up the trophies but yesterday at James McGrory Park the Celtic boss was handing over the silverware.

The hoops boss joined Willie Haughey and John Clark in the Away dug out but was unable to inspire the Celtic Legends as they lost 2-0 to St Roch’s in the delayed Centenary Match for the Glasgow Junior club.

It was all carried out in the best of spirits as Rodgers took to the centre circle to do the honours on a breezy autumn afternoon in Garngad.

The name of the venue ensures that the affinity with Celtic remains strong, in 1922 a young centre-forward called McGrory left the Roch for Celtic where his fame is still celebrated in song alongside his scoring achievements.

Apart from a season on loan at Clydebank McGrory spent his entire senior career at Celtic, racking up 395 goals, a tally that seems impossible to break.

Rodgers will be back at Lennoxtown today monitoring the fitness of his international players with a critical week approaching that sees Atletico Madrid visit Celtic Park either side of trips to Edinburgh to take on Hearts and Hibs.
