Anyone looking in on Celtic’s match with Lazio couldn’t help but notice the amount of possession Liam Scales had.
In pre-season the Irishman appeared to be passing time before a move to Aberdeen or elsewhere, Champions League stats seemed very unlikely.
A bizarre turn of circumstances have put Scales in the spotlight, given his chance he hasn’t disappointed, even on the toughest and most demanding of stages.
Last night he partnered players that came through the youth ranks at Liverpool and Arsenal without looking out of place, alongside Nat Phillips it was Scales that seemed to be the senior partner.
Liam Scales put up 33 more accurate passes (106 total) than the next highest Celtic player ? Lazio
It wasn’t meaningless possession, either. 61 of them occurred in the middle 3rd – with 48 of ‘em moving his team forwards

Gus Lagerbielke comes into contention for Saturday’s match at home to Kilmarnock giving Brendan Rodgers four central defenders to pick from, at this stage it looks like Scales and one other.

Early candidate for player of the year. The lads done great since getting his chance.
Scales has been a truly beautiful story this season…
Sometimes the ‘Scales’ of justice actually do fall in favour of Celtic from time to time –
Liam being one perfect example !
