Brendan Rodgers has called for a peace deal between the Celtic hierarchy and the Green Brigade.

When the Irishman was announced as Ange Postecoglou’s successor The Green Brigade responded on social media with the image of a critical banner displayed at Tynecastle in 2019 after Rodgers had left to join Leicester City.

There has been a thaw in that relationship, thanks mainly to an impressive run of results that sees the hoops sitting five points clear at the top of the SPFL table but a far bigger issue has developed over the last month.

Firstly the Green Brigade had their ticket allocation to away matches, followed last week by the suspension of their Season Tickets until further notice.

Celtic have put nothing on the record but in reply to accusations The Green Brigade published a statement that was highly critical of the club directors.

Rodgers has bigger issues to address than fan issues but speaking to The Sun he said:

The club, and hopefully the guys who are out of the club, can find a solution. Because they are amazing, I will say that.

Take away the political stuff, it’s my understanding that the club had the first standing area in Britain.

So, the club have clearly reached out to supporters to put that in place. So, the club wanted to work with the supporters.

I just think in life you always have to be careful. If you offer a hand, make sure they don’t want the arm. So, you put out your hand to help supporters, and they take the arm, not the hand.

For me, our club’s strength is being together behind the team, and hopefully very, very soon we can find that, and we can support the football.

Football clubs are about football. That’s the simplicity of it for me.

When you come to the football, you’re coming to watch the players on the pitch and support the team.

After next Sunday’s home match with Aberdeen there is a two week break before a hectic run of fixtures till the end of 2023.

If no agreement can be reached in time for the home match with Motherwell on November 25 it looks like the dispute could escalate.

    “Take away the politics”.

  • Martin Blackshaw says:

When will Celtic people across the spectrum recognise that the Green Brigade don’t attend matches to enjoy the football, they’re only interested in using the sport as a platform for ideological agitation. They ruin the pleasure of the game for everyone and bring the club into disrepute. The banner of support for the Green Brigade held high by “ultras” within the PSG fanbase was yet more proof that almost all football fanbases are infiltrated by these Marxist anarchists. That’s why there will never be any point in trying to find common ground with Green Brigade members; they’re not interested in the common sense approach, they only exist to push their dangerous ideology and to disrupt what should be a family atmosphere. They should never be allowed back into Parkhead.

Very difficult to argue with that…so I won’t….Keep politics out of Paradise…Hire a hall …or arrange a demo at Glasgow Green…But just piss off with your show boating.

      A family atmosphere?
I spent one game in the
      “Family section”
at Celtic Park. And I’ve never heard such foul-moth louts in all my life!
That was before I got the ban, for singing The Boys Of The Old Brigade!
      Come on!

  • Joe says:

Stay out of this Brendan. These idiots don’t deserve it. They deserve to be locked out for the season at least.

    • the maister says:

      Fock off!

    • the maister says:

      Your calling others
      “Idiots”
says more about you than it does about them (anybody)!
      Shut up!

  • Jack says:
