Nick Walsh is apparently one of Scotland’s top referees, last season he took charge of two Glasgow Derbies to confirm that status.

Last night he was on VAR duty at the Celtic v St Mirren match, today he is back at the day job working to improve the fitness of Murray Park starlets at Boclair Academy.

At the weekend Alan Muir demonstrated the selective use of VAR as he picked up on a shirt pull on Conor Goldson a split second after missing John Lundstram obstructing Peter Haring.

John Beaton was quickly informed with James Tavernier equalising from the spot.

Last night against St Mirren the hoops were awarded a first half penalty after John Beaton ‘missed’ Alex Gogic lifting his hand to block a netbound shot. Walsh picked up on it, Beaton decided not to book or send off the St Mirren defender.

Deep into the second half Mikael Mandron wasn’t taking any chances as Kyogo hovered on the fringe of the penalty box at short corner.

With his back to the play the St Mirren substitute halted Kyogo’s run then pushed his hands into the strikers throat to ensure that he wasn’t getting close to goal. Play on.

Walsh had plenty of time and cameras to cover the incident, he chose not to get involved.

The Board should just make a public statement to the SFA / SPFL,

to declare that “enough is enough!”,

and that they simply don’t want Beaton reffing any of their games.

[sevco has done exactly that in the recent past – and without any consequences.]

The controversy generated in the SMSM might just get some attention on the

whole incompetent / corrupt state of match officiating?

…but our spineless Board will just look the other way, as per… 🙁

Editor: The 2012 paperwork ensures not a peep of complaint from the grey men that make up the Remuneration Committee.

    • Bob (original) says:

Another reason to expedite clearing out the Board then?

Any dodgy agreements etc. around 2012 can be blamed on those who have gone.

But, another reason why PL should never have been allowed back on the Board…? 🙁

  • Frankie says:

How can our bawless board allow these cheating going ons by the spfl/sfa refs etc and allow a club that died in 2012 run Scottish football , our club is their concern and they should be causing mighty embarrassing eruptions.

Are we to believe… Kenny miller, Hugh Dallas,or Nick Walsh and all the VAR technology, first Kenny miller goldson’s shirt is pulled before the hearts player is blocked…. penalty for him…..next Hugh Dallas….a player ushers the ball out never having touched it … as long as the ball is within playing distance..no obstruction… and now Nick Walsh on VAR I don’t know were to start with him….as Hugh Dallas said VAR should only get involved if a clear and obvious error has occurred…. Kyogo is obstructed “booked” or kicked out “booked”… both can’t be correct .. obstruction referee told you got it wrong “as Kenny miller said 1st foul counts” or as the referee was told by the goalkeeper it was a kick because he never “seen it” if that’s why Kyogo was booked VAR should have asked the referee to look at the monitor for a “possible sending off” did Hugh Dallas not tell the “referees” how VAR should work “clear and obvious” or are John beaton and Nick Walsh just incompetent….in this incident Beaton and Walsh were just “cheating”

  • Tam says:

CELTIC should appeal to highlight the situation with VAR which they “PAY FOR” not the yellow card because they can’t… Appeal against VAR not doing what Hugh Dallas said would help simplify it . A clear and obvious error .

  • Suspiciousmind says:

Cheating at every level of the game in Scotland. Self regulating and corrupt. Someone has to have the courage of their conviction to put his/her head above the parapet. Almost believe Lawwell senior would love to throw the league to keep the other mob in business

  • The great jc says:

For Beathun to pick out Kyogo for a booking last night which was obvious to everyone watching, a foul committed by the St Mirren thug player as a non footballer shows up Beathun as a bigot with leanings towards aiding the other teams.
The real surprise is that he… Beathun hasn’t been beaten up by an upset, honest and cheated supporter before now.

  • The great jc says:

    …bring back the bunnet….

  • John Copeland says:

What about the BBC Scotland match commentator on last night’s game in a hurry to inform the public that while the camera zoomed in on David Turnbull’s face at the penalty ,that Celtic have had more penalties than any other club / clumpany in Scotland this season . Yes , but the season isn’t finished yet , is it ? Plenty of time for others to catch up …..

  • John A says:

Celtic board are complicit in all the underhand spl shenanigans. They will never do anything yet many fans stick up for them. Tories should never be in control of our hoops.
