If Brendan Rodgers was in any doubt a look at Titter tonight will conform that his honeymoon is well and truly over, some are suggesting that the marriage is already on the rocks.

Today’s defeat at Kilmarnock wasn’t a shock or out of the blue. It has been coming for a while, it could have been Motherwell or St Johnstone, Kilmarnock didn’t require luck any honest mistakes.

The better team won, the better manager won. Derek McInnes influenced the game with a change in tactics, Brendan Rodgers looked as if he would rather have been somewhere else.

Any Celtic fan staying with Sky Sports for the Spurs v Newcastle match would have been weeping at the comparison. Even after taking one point from five matches the Spurs players have a belief in their manager. Sensing weakness in their opponents they buried Newcastle.

Rodgers knew exactly what he was getting in to back in June, no one could have been better prepared for the job.

Dermot Desmond made the initial contact, Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay flew to Mallorca to discuss a deal with Rodgers returning to a club four more years shaped in the image of Peter Lawwell.

He got the assurances that not only was the club operating differently but he told the fans that young Mark was doing a fantastic job in recruitment. One of the reasons for returning.

Only Luis Palma of the seven summer signings made the Starting XI for today’s match, the manager isn’t convinced by the signings that he approved of.

There is uncertainty in the play and tactics. Injuries have had an impact but Kyogo Furuhashi and Alistair Johnston are a shadow of last season’s star men.

During the summer a new goalkeeper and left-back were the modest expectations of most fans. It is hard to argue with the view that last season was as good as it gets for Joe Hart and Greg Taylor, both are still assured of their places in the side.

This time around Rodgers took over a treble-winning squad, the results have deteriorated with little in the way of style or entertainment on offer.

Having done his due diligence before taking the job on responsibility lies firmly with the manager, January will demonstrate whether he has the answers.

Let’s get injuries out of the way:

EVERY club has periods of injuries / suspensions during a long season.

With our resources, our club is better placed than most SPL clubs.

Is there something going on behind the scenes at CFC?

Both BR and the team look totally out of sorts.

And NOT just because of today’s result:

we’ve been mince most of this season so far.

And yes, we are top of the league – currently – and have the SC to play for.

But, the summer transfer business, and performances so far seem to

confirm that the club has reverted to type:

instead of building from a position of strength, the team stagnates,

goes backwards, and – eventually – there is a reaction to change things.

    ‘Progress in Europe’!

Remember that? What a load of b*llox!

    Complacency and hubris.

The fact Mikey Johnson pulls on a hoops Jersey says it all for me. Never ever anywhere near good enough but starts before others is embarrassing. Worst player on park at Somerset Ayr when he should have been the best player and Kennedy / Strachan watched it.

It was nothing to do with Lawell, it was Dermot Desmond who wanted Rodgers.
