David Begg has slammed the unacceptable level of boas from Kenny Miller.

For 30 years Begg was one of the main commentators on Radio Scotland, covering all of the top matches up until his retirement in 2012 from the state broadcaster.

That generation was almost exclusively made up of Rangers fans but they tried their best to cover their allegiances although now and then the mask of neutrality would slip. Pre social media their outbursts never went viral.

Having failed miserably in three different attempts at management Miller has slipped into a media career where BBC Scotland, Sky Sports, Radio Clyde and TalkSPORT all think that it is worthwhile paying for his views. Topping it off the Daily Record puts a column in his name every Sunday even though his thoughts and views are everywhere almost every day of the week.

Miller was picking up a fee from Sky Sports at Ibrox last night- trying to put every shot into the net while praising the backing of the fans as they roared their anthems of hatred about Catholics.

With his Ibrox background, having played for both clubs, it would be silly for Miller to pretend that he was giving a completely neutral assessment of the match. There is however a line to be drawn which Miller seems completely unaware of.

There were non-Sevco fans watching last night’s match, not every incident and development has to be covered from the viewpoint of the home supporters.

Mark Fotheringham’s former Number 2 just couldn’t hold back, with no Sky coverage of the Scottish Cup Miller will be back with BBC Scotland at the weekend alongside Kenny Macintyre, Alasdair Lamont, Jane Lewis, Neil McCann and Steven Thompson.

  • Captain Swing says:

His glaring lack of balance or insight and his failure in football management aren’t unconnected. All successful managers will tell you that the majority of their work is managing people/egos/personalities rather than slaving over tactical matters or signing targets. KM showing a staggering lack of balance indicates an inability to understand a situation from any viewpoint other than his own…. not a desirable quality in a coach or manager.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Begg was a very good commentator back in the Radio only days that could make the dullest of games sound exciting and it got him accusations of bias towards both ourselves and The Sevco Huns…

I believe he was originally from Tain and leans towards Aberdeen FC –

But good on him for calling out the incoherent rambling wreck that is Miller…

I had a look at an Aberdeen forum last night and they are truly irate with his bias –

In the thread The Huns v Aberdeen (Their description) from pages 35 back to 25 – Jeezo they utterly detest Sevco and anyone connect with them (Sevco) and aren’t afraid to put their worst wishes in print either…

Bloody Hell we are like choirboys about Sevco in comparison to what Aberdeen fans are regarding them for certain !

  • John Copeland says:

Sitting alongside commentator Ian ‘ can Rangers score another ‘ Crocker ,Miller had carte blanche to utter whatever he liked …with complete impunity . It was the old ‘pinky and perky ‘ presentation from the SS …again . The bias towards one clumpany is overwhelming in wee Scawlin ! BBC , the SS , Stv , and the SMSM as an entirety . I still say Miller has the ideal face for radio . With the sound turned off ..of course !
