After eight matches in charge of Aberdeen Neil Warnock has walked away from the manager’s job at Pittodrie.

Neil Lennon was promoting himself for the Aberdeen job at the start of this week, he might now get the chance earlier than expected in front of supporters that despised him as a player.

Six matches in the SPFL without a win exposed the limits of the veteran boss who has constantly been criticising the players that he was working with and selecting.

Victories over Bonnyrigg Rose and today against Kilmarnock have taken the Dons into the semi-final draw for the Scottish Cup but at the final whistle today Warnock seemed unusually low key.

It seemed that after the excitement of taking Aberdeen to Ibrox in his first match in charge the 75-year-old lost any enthusiasm that he had for the job.

I was honoured to lead Aberdeen for a short period to help Dave and the Board get themselves into a position where they could get closer to making a permanent appointment.

It goes without saying that I had hoped I could’ve collected a few more league wins along the way, but I am also delighted to have helped the club into the Scottish Cup Semi Final. I hope they can now go on and lift the trophy.”

Ronnie and I can’t thank the fans enough for their support while we’ve been here and we wish the club and the supporters all the very best for the remainder of the season and for the future

Three years after resigning from Celtic during the Lockdown season Lennon has only had one short spell in charge in Cyprus to add to his CV, recently he had another near miss for the job of managing Ireland.

Warnock will probably do a great relegation escape rescue in The Championship in England similar to what he did at Huddersfield Town last season though it looks like Rotherham are gone…

It’d be interesting to see how Lennon would fare at Aberdeen…

It’d certainly be tasty in the games v Sevco for sure !

That veteran of English Football Management took one look at Scottish Football – and said
    “It’s Not for Me!”
