BBC Scotland are reporting that Brendan Rodgers has the right to appeal against his one match touchline ban which will see him watch Sunday’s match with Livingston from the stand.

The Irishman won’t be able to have contact with his players for an hour before kick-off or at half-time which leaves John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan in charge although there will be audio contact between the Celtic manager and his backroom staff during the match.

A two match suspension had been suggested but fearful of the consequences of banning Rodgers from the match at Ibrox the SFA suspended the second match until the end of the season with the Irishman being served with it if he ‘reoffends’.

Following a report in The Sun announcing the outcome of today’s appeal, shortly before 3pm today BBC Scotland reported:

Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers has been given a one-match touchline ban with another suspended, which means he will not miss the forthcoming Old Firm derby.

The Celtic manager complained of “incompetence” and “really poor officiating” in a 2-0 loss away to Hearts earlier this month.

Reviews led to Yang Hyun-jun’s yellow card being upgraded to red and Tomoki Iwata conceding a penalty.

Celtic later had their appeal against Yang’s dismissal rejected.

Rodgers has five days to decide whether to appeal against his own punishment.

Effectively Rodgers has until Saturday to put in an appeal, beyond then he will have served the most significant part of his punishment.

Suggestions that Celtic had prepared a ‘Desmond Dossier’ and would go in ‘all lawyered up’ seem to be wide of the mark with both parties getting a result that they can live with.

The issue now for Celtic is that with Crawford Allan in charge of appointments for the remainder of this season the outgoing Head of Refereeing can inflict his own punishment following today’s hearing.

John Beaton or Nick Walsh are expected to referee the April 7 clash at Ibrox with the SFA making their announcement on Tuesday morning.

Didn’t need a big shot lawyer to see that the “Caldwell option” was a get out for the SFA who smartly took it as did the Celtic board albeit from a different position!

  • Bob (original) says:

The decision was being reported at 2.30pm today,

    which did seem rather quick?

A cynic might suggest that the punishmentmight have been agreed in advance?

And presumably, if an agreement was made in advance,

then any appeal would have been ruled out [agreed] as well…?

  • Big Den says:

Another wasted opportunity from a craven, forelock tugging board of incompetents at Celtic. Fergus McCann would have wiped the floor with them and he wouldn’t be paying for the privilege of being cheated by VAR either.! There’s no way Celtic were “Lawyered up” for this pathetic outcome, a first year paralegal could have got this result. Prepare for the cheating to be ramped up now til seasons end….well done Celtic, well done.!

    • Bob (original) says:

      Ha!

Yes, the result – the CFC statement – were underwhelming.

Maybe the’Messi of sports law’ was injured,

and was replaced with a much cheaper, ‘Scheidt of sports law’ instead?

Oh well, our detached Board can get back to sleep now. 🙁

  • FSTB says:

One can but wonder that when celtic seem to get serious about questioning the authorities they seem to back down in some way .
    Dougie Dougie, and such
Looks to me like a backroom deal has been made with cigars and handshakes .
Roger’s is in the dug out at the bigotdome and Robinson is reffing our games right away
I hope celtic are building a case against the bias but being trapped in the spf(hell) with no route out doesn’t fill me with confidence to be honest

At what point do we stop hoping our board will take action? How ludicrous does it have to get? What if we are cheated out of a swing of 100M and still nothing? When does it become a realisation that the only thing that will stop us being cheated is when, we the fans take action? Oldco still has around 20 trophies on their record and that wasn’t enough. Sorry their comes a point when the fans are to blame. Keep paying, keep being cheated.

  • The Joker says:

Lol not worry the 60 gullible fans will still show up every second week to get ripped off.
You see thing is should we lose this league title only then will the penny drop with the fans that they are being CHISELED,but by that time it will be to late.
The SFA and Crawford Allen would have already played their part in THE BIG FIX and sevco will ride away into the sunset with the £70 million lottery ticket.

At which point the protests will start but it will be to late by then as sevco would then be matching us £ for £ in terms of money in the bank.

Our fans are a bit like the THICK English people that voted for Brexit, taking in the lies of everything all rosy in the garden until the shit hits the fan and they see exactly what they are left with, the middle of a doughnut.

  • the maister says:

What bugs me is that Beaton gets exonerated, when we all know … he’s the problem!

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Celtic ought to do exactly what Sevco did with Collum and say that they simply don’t want their particular referee they have a grievance with (ie – Beaton)…

Well it worked brilliantly for Sevco with Collum didn’t it !

    • Terence Nova says:

It”s clear from responses on here that our Club has rolled over once again and accepted a shit decision…So I’ll repeat what I’ve said often…We get what we deserve…End of.

  • the maister says:

I wonder if match officials are dope tested on a regular basis.
    Just sayin’!
