As predicted by Video Celts on Wednesday Brendan Rodgers will be in the Celtic dug out for next Sunday’s Glasgow Derby at Ibrox.

The Celtic boss was charged with a breech of Rule 72 for describing John Beaton’s use of VAR as incompetent during Celtic’s 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.

A minimum punishment of a two match touchline suspension was widely reported across the media but in 2019 Gary Caldwell, managing Partick Thistle at the time, faced a similar charge after describing Andrew Dallas as arrogant.

Reporting on his Notice of Appeal the Thistle website stated:

Thursday 14th February, 2019 at 2:00pm

Gary Caldwell has been handed an immediate one-match suspension following a Scottish FA Judicial panel hearing at Hampden today.

The manager was found to be in breach of Disciplinary Rules 72 and 203 and will be banned from the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Alloa Athletic.

Gary has also been given an additional one-match ban, suspended until the end of the 2018/19 season.

At 2.14 today The Scottish Sun reported the same punishment for Rodgers although at 3.15 there was nothing on the SFA website to confirm the decision.

A one match touchline ban will see Rodgers in the stand at Livingston on Sunday and back in place for the match at Ibrox on Sunday.

With Don Robertson again in charge for the match at Livingston any Celtic player red carded will be suspended for the trip to Ibrox.

Today’s one match ban is believed to be a great relief to Ian Maxwell and Peter Lawwell with neither side expected to comment on the case.

Still a big bag of shite won out on the day, they should have challenged this fully with all guns blazing, even taking it to The Sport of Arbitration, and get the FUDS at the SFA to explain themselves and those decisions.

  • Paddybhoy67 says:

It’s a fudge, eh, Joe? The Celtic board appear supine once again.

  • the maister says:

Rule 72 ” … to publicity (i) criticise the Decision(s) and/or performance(s) of any or all match official(s) in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official … “.
If only the rules were applied … evenly?

  • Sid says:

Wow, how corrupt are the SFA. Had the Derby game been at Celtic Park the punishment would have been at least 2 games. This is because they can’t guarantee BR safety and don’t want to risk it. It’s also to stop Celtic taking further action which would highlight their corruption. In other words a fudge. Looks like Celtic will be punished on the Park instead of, off it. If Celtic are on the end of more cheating then fans must take action against our own club rather than wait for our club to do. This can’t go on.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

That is a very good and valid point Sid in that they cannot gaurantee his safety at Liebrox…

Protecting their beloved Sevco once again without staying having to say it or admit it !

    • Tom. says:

Sorry but I Can’t understand your logic. If they can’t guarantee Brendan’s safety why is he being allowed to manage there.
Need to get into them in the day. We beat them the last time so a repeat dose would be great.

      • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

You might understand the logic of the member of his medical team who was bottled and SCARRED FOR LIFE in Brendan’s technical area at Liebrox – And they had a very very good (if ultimately unsuccessful) attempt at Scarring Brendan’s goalkeeper Joe Hart as well…

But yep – Indeed Tom we absolutely need to get into them on the day and as you rightly say a repeat dose of the September medicine for them would indeed be awesome !
