Celtic have issued a statement to The Sun about the coins that hit John Kennedy during the 3-3 draw at Ibrox today. There is no mention of the incident on the club website.

Early in the second half the home fans were celebrating an equaliser from Cyril Dessers but it was disallowed after John Beaton was called for a VAR review.

As he pointed to the centre of the pitch any home fans thought that the goal was being allowed but the match referee was pointing towards where play would restart following a foul on Tomoki Iwata.

Sky Sports briefly cut to the Celtic dug-out where the police were present, Beaton didn’t check up on what had happened but it was clearly concerning for Brendan Rodgers, his staff and substitutes.

The Sun reports:

A Celtic spokesperson said: “It is totally unacceptable that our staff have once again been targeted in this way.

“We will be raising our serious concerns with Rangers and we understand that the matter is currently being investigated by Police Scotland.”

The use of the word again is probably a reference to the match two years ago when Celtic physio Daniel Friel was struck by a glass bottle shortly before half-time.

No action was reported by the SFA, not even a basic investigation but the fan involved was given a one year jail sentence.

The two clubs will meet once more in the SPFL Premiership with a post-split fixture to be scheduled for Celtic Park.

…and why would our Board even consider accepting tickets for ibrox next season?

Yet again, the staff are hit with projectiles.

Rather than issuing a statement to The Sun [?!],

our Board should be logging a formal complaint to both the SFA & SPFL?

There is ample evidence that ibrox stadium is simply unsafe

for our club and supporters to attend.

There is also ample evidence that sevco has been negligent

    when dealing with stadium security.

How about the governing body of European football, then again they are good at turning a blind eye as well.

    • Captain Swing says:

It will take a literal blind eye for either of those two venally corrupt organisations to get involved. Scum, but aided and abetted by governing bodies which do nothing but take money out of the game. They should close that stand for a number of matches, but there is more chance of hell freezing over.

They are the dregs of humanity.

How Brenden Rogers kept Iwata on the park for the full game is beyond understanding. Hatate flatters to deceive and I just don’t get the worshipping of McGregor who was found out when he attempted a pass that was more than his stock in trade 3 yarder

I am not saying Hart was responsible for any of the goals but his lack of presence doesn’t help. That playing from the back is suicidal especially when Idah came on and gave him someone to aim for.

Having said that Beaton won the game for them, not only with the penalty but calling foul every time a Celtic player came within tackling distance and the yellow card nonsense just played on the players minds for the second half killing the impetus.

However it has to be said the players did not bottle it which is something.

Wait for the SMSM reporting…fans at the “old firm” game threw missiles at the opposing teams staff…… the real story is “the rangers” fans in the Ibrox main stand threw missiles at the Celtic team’s staff…. also the carpet at the SFA/SPFL must be touching the ceiling with all the stuff they have brushed under it… like “the rangers” fans that hit a member of the opposing team’s staff, threw missiles at opposing fans, threw broken glass on to the park, placed weapons to be used later… after all this the SFA/SPFL think there should be 5% of “the rangers” fans allowed into CELTIC PARK

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

It’s high time Sevco were getting threatened with docking of points for this repetitive behaviour !

  • Mark Nugent says:

Maybe have proper surveillance cameras facing the crowd who are in range for this very problem? You’d need to protect the cameras from coins etc, obviously.

Another option: the fans in throwing distance should be behind a perspex barrier, just an idea. Keep the animals in a cage.

A wee customer care thing could be hand creme at the door, their poor knuckles must get scraped up, might confuse the anti-COVID impulses. Think they know the difference between E45 and hand sanitizer? HH
