John Beaton watched it uninterrupted in real time, in glorious 3D and knew that Fabio Silva had dived attempting to get his side a penalty against Celtic.

He was perfectly placed, had clear vision and reacted instinctively- until Nick Walsh gave him another option.

For a few moments he knew that the balance of the game hinged on his decision, all around him 50,000 home fans were baying for something, for anything to get them back into the match.

As soon as he headed over to the pitchside monitor the next stage was inevitable, Hibs went through the same scenario last week with David Dickinson.

From every angle there is clearly no foul committed. Falling backwards Alistair Johnston gets a nick on the ball. He had watched Silva diving all through the first half, he knew what was coming next.

Johnston pulled his leg back to avoid contact but Beaton found something to contradict his initial decision.

On top of the flow of free kicks that went against Celtic by 23-10 despite having 46% possession. Football is decided by small margins, today’s match certainly was.

What’s more shameful is that the SFA see fit to put a Rangers fan in charge of the match… Which is almost as shameful as the mute Celtic board who put up with this nonsense.

    • the maister says:

And a sevco employee on var!

      • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

It’s maybe just as well VAR was there today as Beaton didn’t give us our penalty until called to by VAR and he was also gonna let the Sevco disallowed goal stand until VAR put the kybosh on his little plan – He was standing right in front of that foul and did absolutely nothing about it surprise, surprise…

But VAR also happened to get Sevco their penalty which never ever was !

  • Stevie says:

    And so it continues.

  • Gordon Raeburn says:

The people who could have stopped this sit in our boardroom and will say nothing about it. As soon as Beaton was announced as the ref they should have hounded the SFA as Sevco did with Collum. The fans all knew what was coming and it played out that way. Nicholson and Lawwell OUT now.

  • Nick66 says:

Not sure who was in co-commentary, but pointed out that the replay was after the touch by MJ to clear ball. VAR replay came 3 seconds after, (probably 1second), Silva should be Sine Die kicked out of the sport for that performance today. Foul count, laughable. Take the point it’s all we were getting at best anyway.

  • Nick66 says:

Was it Michael Stewart? He lambasted officials. Next Question, has Nick Walsh been incompetent enough to ref the Celtic home game?

  • Stewart says:

The way the lackeys are pulling out anyone and everyone to double down that it was a pen,,, they wer always gonna get something,, as for Di silva he’s just done his career no good behaving in the way he did today absolutely abismal display,,, no amount of lackey bullshite will change that,,

  • Stevie says:

I saw another angle even more obvious. Beaton has now cost us 5 crucial league points in 2 matches. 3 at hearts on var, and 2 at ibrox today. Celtic need to do something about this corrupt bullshit

  • John mcghee says:

CHEATS OF SCOTLAND THE MASONIC FUCKPIGS SCUM HUNS..CELTIC BOARD FULL OF COWARDS WONDER IF THEY COME OUT AND SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE JOHN KENNEDY GETTING HIT WITH COINS OUR WAS THE BOARD DOWN AFTER THE GAME LOOKING FOR THE COINS THE DIRTY RATS ON OUR BOARD..LOYALIST BEATON MAN OF THE MATCH..

  • The Joker says:

Lol.and still 60,000 will show up knowing the baws burst the games a bogey cheating in spades corruption oozing put the game.
I don’t blame the officials anymore or the SFA it’s the dafties in our support buying into the corruption.
Nobody else to blame but ourselves, don’t blame the board they are all there encouraging it all,it’s the saps showing up every 2 weeks knowing the games bent.
Spending all that money on season tickets merchandise and for what,to get laughed at by sevco and their supporters pissing all over our club and our fans,we deserve it,if you act like a Jeremy Hunt you get treated like one.
Now hurry up and sell the next 5 or 6 games of the season while sevco and our own board laugh all the way to bank.

  • John S says:

By changing his original decision (dive) the ref is saying that he got it wrong. I wonder what convinced him of that. Good point in the article – if only home fans, isn’t that undue pressure on officials ?

  • MartinKennea says:

The Celtic plc say nothing , absolutely nothing , about this corruption . Yes corruption . What the fxck has sfa , and ibrox got over Celtic ? WE WONT BE ALLOWED TO WIN THIS LEAGUE TITLE.

  • Wulliebhoy says:

If Celtic took their chances, the game would be out of sight. It really is that simple. It’s in our own hands to make any cheating negligible. Another thing I would say is stop dangling legs out in the box to throw themselves over. It gives the referees an excuse.

Editor: Another thing I would say is that the Laws of the Game are universal, there isn’t a Scottish version, an Ibrox version or a Goldson version. We are now in 2024, no longer at the back of the bus gallantly overcoming the odds, our CEO and Chairman love that scenario and milk it to death but a growing number of supporters are weary of it.

Football is decided on small margins, small margins denied Celtic a win on Sunday with the foul count and yellow cards created by Beaton.

Time to get with the times.
