Loyal bears put more effort into killing Inverness Caley Thistle than they did to save Rangers

The most loyal and staunch of bears have mustered their collective strength to try and put Inverness Caley Thistle into administration.

Hundreds of keyboard warriors have been summoned to action to avenge the events of 2012 when Inverness Caley Thistle were one of the 10 SPL clubs that voted against providing the Tribute Act formed by Charles Green a place in the top flight of Scottish football.

That decision came after creditors led by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and backed by Dave King voted against the CVA offered to 276 creditors ranging from a local face painter to Police Scotland and also covering newsagents, taxi firms, florists and a variety of football clubs including Dundee United and Dunfermline who didn’t receive ticket money from the club who had charged their fans to see the matches and refused to pass the cash on.

Inverness Caley Thistle have been horrendously run, losing £600,000 in season 22/23 despite reaching the Scottish Cup Final, last year the losses were over £1m.

In contrast to the events of 2012 some Caley Thistle directors, sponsors and fans have banded together to try and find a way for their club, formed in 1994, to survive with a Public Meeting called last week.

Showing the level of intellect that resulted in the loss of their own club angry bears booked up the free tickets for the Public Meeting to deny Caley Thistle fans the chance to discuss a future for their club.

If only those staunch bears had shown such initiative in 2012 they might have been able to save their own club from the road to liquidation.

Rather than follow the examples of Motherwell, Dundee, Partick Thistle and Livingston fans who organised themselves and avoided liquidation the loyal bers sat on their keyboards and demanded a Sugar Daddy stepped forward. As long as he wasn’t American or Asian, it had to be a true bear as they looked the other way, shuffled their feet, blamed the SFA, Peter Lawwell, The Vatican, John Reid and the Co-Operative Bank as Her Majesty rejected the CVA.

A year after the liquidation and death of Rangers Hearts fans banded together to save their club from the same fate.

In an effort to save their club the ‘Rangers Fans Fighting Fund’ was set up with widespread media coverage and high profile backing, it raised £540,000 which was later spent on installing new changing facilities and a small stand at Murray Park used for training matches that excluded fans.

In September 2014 with Derek Llambias and Graham Wallace running the new club on an even keel the Daily Mail reported:

The Rangers Fans Fighting Fund will not pass on their £500,000 kitty to the Ibrox board until they receive assurances about the club’s future direction.

The organisation was set up in the wake of the descent into administration in 2012 and raked in more than £600,000 in donations. Money was used to settle football debts owed to Falkirk and Dunfermline, as well as helping pay for the relaying of the Ibrox pitch.

The Fighting Fund is now ready to disband and it’s thought they would prefer the money still in their account to be used for a long-term project at Rangers, such as youth development or the establishment of a club museum.

With their cherished worldwide institution under threat, in administration and heading towards liquidation the supporters raised the less than magnificent sum of £600,000.

Twelve years on since the formation of the Tribute Act by Charles Green that figure wouldn’t cover the weekly wage bill as James Tavernier, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, Tom Lawrence, Ridvan Yilmaz, Tom Lawrence, Ben Davies laugh their way to the ATM.

While the bears focus on Caley Thistle their own club seems very reluctant to publish their own accounts for the year that ended on 30 June 2024, currently there is no CEO, a Caretaker Chairman and one UK based Director in Graeme Park.
