Celtic have again been linked with signing Mahamadou Diawara but it seems to be little more than a reheat of a transfer tale from the summer.
The teenage Lyon midfielder was linked with a move to Celtic then but nothing came of it as Arne Engels and and Luke McCowan arrived on Deadline Day.
Respected French publisher l’Equipe are the source of the current story which is based around Diawara looking to get out of Lyon rather than Celtic wanting to bring in a midfielder.
Brendan Rodgers is currently dealing with the ‘problem’ of having five options for three places in midfield, with Callum McGregor a fixture as captain it is effectively a 50-50 shout between Engels, McCowan, Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo.

Diawara has only played in four matches this season, two in Lique 1 and two in the Europa League, at the age of 19, turning 20 in February he is at the stage of needing games.
Celtic while about to lose Matt O’Riley might have seemed a good match during the summer transfer window but it seems that the logic of a move has passed.
If Celtic are looking to sign a midfielder in January it seems more likely to be Lennon Miller who could then return to Motherwell on loan to complete the season.
Diawara is under contract until June 2028
