Atlanta United have signed a Japanese striker but thankfully it isn’t Kyogo Furuhashi.
Cayman Togashi is the name, signed as a free agent from Japanese side Sagan Tosu just after Ronny Deila arrived to take charge of the MLS side.
During Wednesday afternoon there has been speculation and fears among Celtic fans that the Japanese striker bound for Atlanta was their own hero Kyogo.
On December 23 the Daily Mail reported:
ATLANTA United are considering a fresh approach to sign Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi.
Willing to pay a sum in the region of £10million to land the Japanese talisman in the summer window, the MLS club were offered no encouragement.
However, with two designated player slots vacant ahead of the new season in February, the ambitious outfit are in the market for a marquee centre-forward.
Born in America, made in Japan ????
Welcome to Atlanta, Cayman Togashi ??

Two weeks before facing YB Bern in the Champions League it would be a massive shock if Celtic were considering selling anyone that has been central to Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.
The MLS transfer window remains open until the end of April which means that a deal for Kyogo, signed in July 2021 from Vissel Kobe, can’t be completely ruled out.
There are no signs of imminent transfer deals at Celtic other than Stephen Welsh being in Belgium to complete a loan deal to KV Mechelen.
The Kyogo story (myth) is yet another example of pishful winking by a desperate hun hack. They truly are pathetic.
