After 16 months of howlers it only took a clean sheet against Panathinaikos to convince Jack Butland that he was SUPER again.
Last season got so bad for the former third choice at Crystal Palace that he lost his place to Liam Kelly after the patience of Barry Ferguson finally snapped.
Butland was a Birmingham team-mate of Barry Ferguson but after chucking in goals at home to Motherwell and Hibs the on loan Daily Record columnist decided that enough was enough.
Throughout the season Butland had been costing his side- from the slow motion dive towards a 25 yard trundler from Kyogo Furuhashi to punching a corner into his own net away to Manchester United.
Unfortunately there wasn’t a Scottish referee on hand to disallow that goal for an imaginary push.

In his trademark modest fashion Super Jack told the Daily Record how self motivation restored him to his world class best form:
I feel really refreshed, feel good, feel really positive about the season ahead.
I had a really good summer, a lot of time to think about stuff, work on stuff, just to remind myself that I’m a good goalkeeper.
I believe that I’m a top goalkeeper. Sometimes you can forget that when things get tough and you start to overthink.
That’s the mindset Jack, soon he’ll be after a place in the England World Cup squad.
Since moving to Ibrox two years ago Butland has worked under Micky Beale, Phil Clement, Barry Ferguson and now Russell Martin.
With two years left on his contract there will probably be a few more before he returns to the comfort of being a second or third choice somewhere in England.

Never backwards in coming forward! Probably in his contract he’s to be Captain. Rent a mouth. Such a humble man! ??
