With 79 words shortly before 10pm Statement FC announced the sacking of Russell Martin.

It has been a short but brilliant chapter in the Banter Years as the first ever vegan, Buddhist manager lasted just 17 matches in charge of the Ibrox Tribute Act.

Just last week Martin thought that he had turned the corner with a last gasp win at Livingston, alas wee Davie Martindale is the only SPFL Premiership boss with a defeat to Martin on his CV.

The Livingston boss is likely to be a contender as a replacement or to provide the staunch element to a new look management team.

At 9.20pm on Sunday Sky Sports produced the yellow ticker tape announcing that Martin would be sacked, half an hour later it was confirmed on the club website

RANGERS Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin.

While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club’s expectations.

Assistant Head Coach, Matt Gill, and First-Team Coach, Mike Williamson, will also be departing.

Russell and his staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

Further updates from the club will follow in due course.

Kev Thelwell and Paddy Stewart were responsible for appointing Martin, coming out on top of no-one in particular after eight rounds of interviews.

Last week in Austria the CEO and Director of Football were confronted in their hotel by angry fans, those incidents probably put the issue of Martin beyond doubt.

There was a net spend of £20m made during the summer bringing in 14 players with the English Championship the favoured recruiting ground for players.

With the annual autumn change in manager underway the hunt will be on for Martin’s successor.

The Daily Record Sports Staff now face a dilemma as they push equally for Del boy McInnes competing with star columnist Barry Ferguson for the job.

Dundee United visit Ibrox on October 18 with a new manager bounce anticipated, after seven matches the Tribute Act has picked up eight points, in Europe they are pointless after two fixtures.

Until an interim boss is appointed James Tavernier will take charge of first team matters, the former Wigan man is believed to be bitterly disappointed at losing the seventh permanent manager in his decade of failure at Ibrox.

Joe McHugh has been Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.
When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

A police escort away from the ground after the game.
    Feral, absolutely feral.
Long may the albatross of the oldco hang round Sevco’s neck.
As long as they believe the survival lie, ain’t nothing ever gonna change.

As hilarious as it is across the city, we should really be concerned with ourselves. That was a horrible watch today.
Team looks dysfunctional: forward players don’t know when to press, Maeda (goal aside) only showed up in the last fifteen minutes.
The meeting tomorrow should be a laugh: the CEO will come in, piston everyone’s chips and leave. Nicholson doesn’t have the skill set to negotiate contracts and and vision he has fails at that point.
Good luck tomorrow guys but I fear the worst.

Look at what the 49s have got themselves involved with. I think Thelwell was terrified the other night. He should just shut it down for revenge.

My money is on Gerard but we’ll have to hire Lennon again.

Oh well, there goes the transfer budget for January?

You’d also think that an executive has to fall on their sword too,

for costing the new owners 3 pay-offs – and after just 4 short months?

    …Martin was on a 3 year contract?! 🙂
