Danny Rohl has claimed that the decision to walk away from Ibrox was taken by James Tavernier.
When you aren’t offered a new contract the options are kind of limited.
Tavernier’s last contract was signed in the summer of 2022.
Soon after Conor Goldson was given an incredible contract as a few agent on the back of Fake News that he was the most in-demand defender in the UK.
Two years later Goldson took a pay off to move to Cyrus.
Tavernier has stood firm, draining the club of every penny of his contract with his last trophy bonus coming in December 2023.
Since then it has been one disappointment after another although the monthly bank transfer has never fallen under that description.
Since January Tavernier has been available on a pre-contract deal. There hasn’t been a sniff of interest in signing him.
Not many clubs are looking for a 35-year-old non-defending full back to take every free kick, corner and penalty.
TAVERNIER FORCED TO WALK AWAY
On Monday the former Wigan journey man made a final media appeal for a new Ibrox contract.
When that was ignored he turned to Instagram to announce that he’ll be offski at the end of this season.
It was softball central as Rohl faced the media this morning.
Avoiding eye contact and stumbling around the former Sheffield Wednesday boss said:
In general I think there’s such memories for a club. It’s always a big one, a big news for you, for us, for the club, for the fans, for all of them.
I think it’s great since I’m here, he was a good captain for us, he leads the groups on and off the pitch. I was always in conversation with him. I think we have a good relationship in general. Finally he makes the final decision for him.
I think it’s also not for me… How can I describe this? He is a legend of the club and I think, just what I can say, made an amazing career here.
Rohl was later asked about a Testimonial match and replied that they should find a great way for a big goodbye. You can’t take that to the bank like you can with a Testimonial pay day.
So no contract offer and no testimonial.
On Monday afternoon Tavernier told a media conference that he was undecided on his future. His focus was the remaining matches of the season.
Wednesday morning saw the heart-breaking announcement on Instagram.
There has been no stampede of clubs offering a contract to the exiting Ibrox star.

Seriously Joe the Scottish media are making a meal out of this Tavpen carry on none of them in the main stream media have the balls to tell it as it is… the guy is probably the worst defender playing in Scotland but granted he was excellent at penalty kicks & hiding his hand ball from referees, the German with the poppy is probably delighted to see the back of him as are the Hun board after paying him a fortune last couple of years, he’ll probably sign for their close cousins mini Huns on a fraction of his present wages
