Gordon Strachan is currently ‘serving as an advisor to Celtic’.
That is the claim made by The Celtic Way which has been granted an exclusive interview with the former Celtic manager.
Strachan is best known as the Technical Director of Dundee. During his time the club has appointed Mark McGhee and Steven Preslley into the manager’s job.
Strachan has held that role since July 2019, despite that, interviewing Strachan, the Celtic Way reports:
Gordon Strachan replaced Martin O’Neill at Celtic back in 2005, but the chances of an identical dugout shift over two decades on appear slim.
“I’m not wanting it!” says Strachan, with his typically piquant tone, as The Celtic Way asks him about the upcoming Parkhead vacancy over the phone.
Strachan is currently the technical director at Dundee and serves as an advisor to Celtic, the club he led to three Scottish Premiership titles, two League Cups, and one Scottish Cup between 2005 and 2009.
Even by the anything goes spirit of Scottish football there should surely be legislation that prevents someone working for two member clubs.
SFA rules prevent someone employed by one club from being involved in any capacity whatsoever at management or administration level at another club.
If Strachan wants to be the Technical Director of Dundee there should be enough for him to do there without also helping out at Celtic.
MEET THE STRACHAN DYNASTY INSIDE CELTIC
He already has two of his sons, Gavin and Craig taking a wage out of Celtic.
In August 2021 Strachan took up a three month consultancy role with Celtic. The areas to be covered were the B team, Women’s team and Youth Development.
Five years later it is difficult to make a case for any of those areas having improved.
On October 29, two days after Brendan Rodgers resigned Strachan and Tam Cowan held a Q and A evening.
Wilfried Nancy was appointed Celtic manager on December 3. He left on January 5 with Paul Tisdale, Gavin Strachan has been first team coach through five different manager since 2020.
There has been no comment from Celtic on their search for a new manager since the exit of Nancy.
Michael Nicholson has conducted two Celtic TV interviews during almost five years as CEO. Both were in January 2025 discussing his excitement and recruitment plans for Nancy.
There has been no word on a replacement for Tisdale as Head of Football Operations. Brian Wilson has been interim Chairman since January 1.

Jesus Joe that Strachan is turning into a 2nd Ferguson.. lingering around like a bad smell same as his mentor Fergie at Man Utd….guy should be told sling his hook and don’t let door his him on way out, we want to modernize club with new board, young manager with up to date ideas and a team investment plan put in place not some has been from the 80s whose two sons are draining money from club
It’s Jobs for the Bhoys!!
Since DD has taken over Celtic on his sweetheart deal ably constructed by lifetime disciple and lackey Peter Lawwell it’s all about being a pal of DD and being a Yes Man and never about merit! Remember WGS was promised the managers job in Cheltenham Guinness Tent before MON got the job. Appointment delayed not cancelled! DD loves the Yes Men he can recruit.
( MON is getting BR Salary and never asked for any terms or conditions or guarantees when he accepted the job in a 10 minute phone call)
