Gordon Strachan has ruled himself out of succeeding Martin O’Neill as Celtic manager.
In 2005 the former Southampton boss replaced O’Neill as Celtic boss.
Strachan delivered three SPL titles and two places in the last 16 of the Champions League during four seasons in charge.
A fourth title was beyond him, Strachan resigned and Tony Mowbray took over.
THE STRACHAN DYNASTY
His son Craig, a former golf shop pro has been Celtic’s senior UK and European scout for more than 10 years. Gavin has been first team coach under five different managers.
Strachan Senior is Director of Football at Dundee but has no plans to join the Celtic payroll.
Listening to Gordon on TalkSPORT yesterday, the Celtic Way reports the one time Celtic manager saying:
You know, me and Martin are the best of mates. I am looking and thinking, ‘What are you doing?’
He’s still doing the bumbling fool act after games, but he knows exactly what he is up to.
I know more about football now than I ever did. But I don’t have the anger or the drive to do it again. Martin is digging it out from somewhere.
I have no idea where he digs it out from, this drive to keep going, but I am wishing him all the best.
O’Neill has had the media pack in the palm of his hand since returning to Celtic.
The nervous, fearful questions have been gobbled up with ease.
Anything contentious is met with a joke and reference to his age.
A reply on the youth of the person asking the question.
There is now a month left on O’Neill’s stint as interim manager of Celtic.
There are bound to be a few questions about what happens after May 23 at Hampden.
Celtic sacking Wilfried Nancy on January 5 Celtic have made no progress towards appointing a replacement manager of a Head of Football Operations.
Six days after announcing that Andoni Iraola was leaving at the end of this season Bournemouth announced that Marco Rose would be his replacement.
Michael Nicholson hasn’t said a word in public since December 16. He was boasting about the excitement recruitment plans for Wilfried Nancy.
Robbie Keane is the favourite to become the new Celtic manager. The Irishman is currently in charge of Ferencvaros and fits the time served Celtic template devised by Dermot Desmond.
