For the sixth time this season Don Robertson will referee an SPFL match involving Celtic.
With 14 referees taking charge of Premiership matches there is no need for any ref to be given more than four Celtic matches. He was also referee for the Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox in March.
As we know Celtic matches are refereed in a very strange way by Willie Collum’s mates.
Despite having the bulk of possession, often 70% or more, almost always Celtic have more fouls awarded against them.
Opposing manager know how to work the system. How to break up play, halt any momentum building for Celtic.
At the slightest contact, or even none at all, opposing players hit the deck. Nine times out of 10 they will be awarded a free kick.
The opposite also applies. You can knock lumps out of Celtic players with virtually no chance of being punished.
Robertson is the absolute master of this form of refereeing.
ROBERTSON- A CONSTANT DANGER TO CELTIC
It has allowed him to climb the ladder starting with the famous Ross County match in 2017.
That day Alex Schalk took a dive with Erik Sviatcvhenko a full metre away. Robertson didn’t hesitate to award a penalty against Celtic.
Under John Fleming, Crawford Allan and now Willie Collum he has been trusted to deliver the required decisions.
As well as his unusual refereeing performances Robertson is a regular on VAR, most recently for Celtic’s recent away win over Hibs.
That day he didn’t notice that Joe Newell twice used his arm before equalising for Hibs. Similarly in the second half he didn’t notice Josh Campbell using both hands to push Ben Nygren over in the penalty box.
With that background Robertson will referee the most important match of the season tomorrow.
Only Collum can justify that. Just like the continual appointments of Steven McLean, John Beaton and David Dickinson in matches involving a club that they detest.

The ultimate Robertson performance. Celtic with 77% possession committed 17 fouls, only one foul committed against Hibs. It came in the 88th minute.

Celtic with 75% possession committed 14 fouls. Kilmarnock with just 25% possession only committed 4 fouls.

The opening SPFL match of the season, Robertson setting the tone. With 76% possession Celtic committed 10 fouls, St Mirren only 6.
Video Celts highlighted these patters before Celtic played Hearts on December 7. Within the first 10 minutes he had awarded three free-kicks against Hearts.
In September against Celtic Hibs only committed one foul in 90 minutes. Three months later Hearts had three free kicks awarded against them in the first 10 minutes.

A very different set of stats. For the first time in four matches at Celtic Park Robertson awarded more free kicks to Celtic than their opponents.
Wonder what Crawford Allan will say about this. pic.twitter.com/3HXII11bZC

A booking according to Robertson.
Should Niang have seen red for his challenge on Ideguchi? ?

Another booking from Robertson.

Maybe it’s just as well it’s Hearts we’re playing and not Hibs !
He is better probably to have than the partisan Dickinson for sure but still worth a watching…
McInnes has tried everything to pressurise him to the hilt for sure…
Will it work – Probably but if he was the stubborn ‘fu*k you’ – don’t tell me what to do type it might just work against McInnes but I doubt it !
The only possibility of fair play by the match officials tomorrow is that they will be under the microscope as never before.
Every decision will be scrutinised, and it just might result in an even playing field, but I’m not holding my breath.
The habits of a lifetime are difficult to overcome.
Mibbees after the highly unusual ‘gift’ of that penalty at the death the other night,
the match officials ‘have seen the light’ and want Celtic to win now…? 🙂
But, Robertson won’t be getting free pints in his local pub – if he’s not barred already.
Expect an equally disputed decision in Hearts favour the morra, which obviously will “ even up” the luck we had with the penalty.
It’s almost as if it was planned.
