The hysteria whipped up by Kris Boyd and Derek McInnes has resulted in threats being made to John Beaton.
The decision to award a penalty to Celtic at Motherwell seemed to trigger an extreme reaction from Boyd and McInnes from 40 miles away.
Hearts ought to have been celebrating a 3-0 win over Falkirk, instead the former Rangers duo were obsessed by Celtic winning.
At Tynecastle McInnes claimed that the penalty awarded by Beaton was disgusting.
Boyd ranted on about three big decisions going in Celtic’s favour- one of them in a match not involving Celtic.
Contact details for Beaton were released on-line with threats made to the referee on duty at Fir Park.
No one at Sky tried to calm the situation down.
No comment was made of the claim from McInnes.
THE JOHN BEATON PILE ON
John Robertson and Paul Hartley would have been as well going home as Boyd ranted.
Eilidh Barbour failed miserably in her role as presenter. It was the angry Boyd show.
Sky lapped up the clips. They were replayed constantly all through Thursday.
In mid-afternoon today the SFA hit back with a statement:
John Beaton and his family spent last night at home under police surveillance following a leak of personal details online.
The Scottish FA condemns in the strongest possible terms attempts to compromise the safety of match officials. Such vigilantism, motivated by decisions perceived to be right or wrong on a field of play, is a scourge on our national game and we are grateful to Police Scotland for their swift intervention.
We are also clear, sadly, that this is the inevitable consequence of the heightening criticism, intolerance and scapegoating demonstrated this season by media pundits, supporters, official supporters’ groups, clubs, players, managers and former match officials.
BBC Scotland were just as bad. Steve Conroy, John Underhill and Des Roache were used throughout Thursday to spread the same message.
In a match that they weren’t playing in Hearts had been dealt a horrific miscarriage of justice.
There was a clear handball from Sam Nicholson as he challenged Auston Trusty. For good measure he also elbowed the Celtic defender on the side of the head.
Had the penalty been awarded in any of the first 30 matches of the season it would barely have been mentioned.
The timing of it triggered the pile on. Without any form of restraint.
LEGACY MEDIA LOSES THE PLOT ON CELTIC PENALTY
Legacy media has stopped just short of the more rancid elements of Ibrox fan media.
Thousands of people across social media know Beaton’s background. He isn’t a Celtic fan.
Other European countries ensure that these issues don’t arise by keeping match officials away from fixtures involving clubs they support or from areas that they live.

Only Collum can explain why Beaton was put in charge of back-to-back Celtic v Motherwell matches.
On March 14 he also required instruction from VAR to award Celtic a penalty after Emanuel Longelo wiped out Daizen Maeda in front of goal.
Two weeks earlier at Ibrox Beaton required a lengthy pitch-side review before awarding Celtic a penalty at Ibrox. Reo Hatate scored to give Celtic a 2-2 draw.
Michael Stewart barred or banned from Hunden for less than what has been spouted out in the last couple days by pundits,the media radio and TV stations alike.
Now that the shit has hit the fan pardon the pun,with Beaton being targeted by his own klan,a wee bit of karma tomorrow would be a bit of doubling down by the SFA with decisions that are 50/50 or blatant Celtic decisions awards without favour to Hearts,that wiukd F**K them up and sevco.
Now for the psychological bit,McInnes MELTDOWN the other night was an action replay of Kevin Keegan rage from yesteryear calling out Fergie and Man Utd,that spectacularly backfired Keegan with Fergie eating away inside hid head,that could now be the same situation wee angry from Mayfair finds himself in now.
He should have kept his mouth shut the other night but he didn’t,and tp me that’s advantage Celtic to add the other advantages we have on them.

Disgusted from Gorgie says “forget about the fact that we have gone the whole season without conceding a penalty, that we have played a number of important games against ten or nine men, that we have required the assistance of fortunate decisions on our behalf, despite all this, the Glasgow based authorities are out to get us”.

For once and probably once only I’ll praise The SFA…
They have called out The Scummy’s and also called out ‘clubs’ without naming the worst one (aged as of today 13 years and 290 days old) – Sevco…
They have also called out former cheats with whistles (don’t think there were monitors there in these days) who The Scummy’s give a platform to on a weekly basis to dissect Celtic decisions in an appalling manner…
At least they canny blame Celtic supporters this time !
PS – Does this mean that Void Boyd, McCoist, Conroy, Roache and most of The Scummy’s will be banned from Hampden going forward…
