Gordon Duncan of Super Scoreboard becomes SFA messenger

It seems that the regular host of Radio Clyde’s Super Scoreboard is being rewarded for his sterling work defending Willie Collum and his blundering group of referees.

Ironically there are no Scottish match officials among the 170 officials called up for the World Cup.

Duncan is a very decent presenter but his credibility has been shot to pieces through the VAR Review.

Every month Collum comes up with ridiculous excuses and explanations to explain the decisions of John Beaton, Steven McLean, David Dickinson, Andrew Dallas, Don Robertson and the rest of Scotland’s ‘top officials’.

With a straight face and clearly scripted, Collum and Duncan carefully select seven or eight VAR decisions from one month of fixtures and give them a whitewash.

Celtic’s win away to Hibs last month was typical.

On the pitch four clear errors were made by the match officials. Possibly five with Celtic having a decent penalty claim in the first half.

Those decisions barely featured in the VAR Review. If similar decisions were made in a World Cup match there would be global outrage.

There is absolutely no way of justifying the handball from Joe Newell for the equalising Hibs goal.

Equally the push on Ben Nygren that was ignored was scandalous. Dickinson and assistant referee Calum Spence both had close up uninterrupted views of the incident.

Robertson had multiple camera angles to review. Every one of them would have shown that Josh Campbell used two hands to push Nygren over. No penalty was awarded.

Duncan’s career is clearly on the up, he is regularly on Sky Sports, they wouldn’t dream of bringing in any of the presenters at BBC Scotland.

But being in-house to such an extent with the SFA converts him from being a presenter into a messenger. Pushing the multiple failings of the SFA.
