The 28-year-old has spent almost all of his career playing in Egypt with only a brief stint in Denmark breaking that run.
According to Mark Hendry of Celts Are Here Celtic have ‘checked on the conditions’ whatever that means.
A search of Emam Ashour on Transfermarkt also checks on the conditions which reveal that the midfielder is under contract until 2028 with Al Ahly.
Following their defeat to Argentina the Egyptian squad are entitled to a three week holiday which runs in to the build up to Celtic’s SPFL opener against Dundee.
For a club incapable of securing deals on Marcelo Saracchi and Kelechi Iheanacho it is quite a stretch to see them sign up Ashour against competition from elsewhere.
Celtic dont stand a chance, they will drag out and haggle over the price.

After scoring twice in five World Cup appearances Ashour’s agent will be working round the clock to cash in on his client being in the spotlight.
NICHOLSON’S CELTIC TRANSFER TEMPLATE FAILS TO DELIVER
Contacting Michael Nicholson isn’t likely to be a priority. It certainly wouldn’t be productive.
News spreads fast on the football grapevine. Dealing with Celtic and Nicholson is a waste of time.
Al Ahly could expect a bid of £1.5m for a £4m rated midfielder. Followed by 10 days of silence from Nicholson.
If a deal hasn’t been secured elsewhere Celtic will come in with a £2m offer with a couple of add-ons to take the fee towards £3m if the hoops succeed in the Champions League.
Should Nicholson agree terms with a player and his club one final step is required. An email for sign off goes out to Non Executive Directors for permission, replies are dependent on tee-off times at distant golf courses.
Fortunately this process for Camilo Duran started before June 19 when The Sun first revealed Celtic’s interest. A fee of £2m was mentioned.
On July 10 the official announcement is expected. The fee has risen to £5.5m.
At best a Celtic transfer inquiry takes three weeks to be completed.
In the cases of Iheanacho and Saracchi it can be three months without completion.
Celtic fans are well used to this way of operating. Nicholson comes under no scrutiny from the board on his performance.
As well as presiding over successive disastrous transfer windows Nicholson appointed Mark Lawwell, Paul Tisdale and Wilfried Nancy to Celtic.

Now, now, we’re told the man works twelve to fourteen hour days.
To work those hours, and deliver next to nothing, should be cause alone for his dismissal.
To paraphrase:
Never in the field of human sport, has so much time been spent, by so few, to produce so little.
I get so wound up about the lack of interest in transfers from bird brain nothing in him nothing . I’ve all ways said there is a trogen horse at park head try to dismantle Celtic . I made my own way to park head age 5yrs seen a lot at home @away but this guy is no Celtic man no way
Editor: See Five Way Agreement of 2012. Trojan Horse or Albatross?
Cammy Devlin up for a free. No brainer. Just what we need in midfield. A Paul Hartley type.
No chance, just no chance
Be brave! We’ve got to accept… they may take our best players, but they’ll never take our Nicholson!
Genuinely believe that no matter what price is quoted or agreed, nothing is given the green light until the moustache has given the nod.
He wants money in before money out, the bank balance is ring fenced.
Everyone has to just sit and twiddle their thumbs until he’s seen the email or answered the mobile.
Nothing….absolutely nothing gets done without his final say.
MN will have authority for a mill or two, anything else it’s the tash.
That’s where all the delay lies.
