The haunting Haissem Hassan verdict of Ally McCoist

Ally McCoist could hardly believe his eyes when he watched Haissem Hassan in inspired form at the World Cup Finals.

Left on the bench for the three group stage matches the then Real Ovideo winger burst into life in the knock-outs.

He was a constant threat to Australia before Egypt went through to the last 16.

The stage was set for a clash with Argentina, playing for a place in the quarter-finals.

Hassan didn’t disappoint. He dazzled. Egypt came very close to one of the biggest ever World Cup upsets.

Halfway through the second half Egypt led 2-0.

They lost out 3-2 as Argentina performed an incredible rescue act inspired by Leo Messi.

The other name being talked about was Hassa. Certainly by the chubby co-commentator much loved by English audiences.

The finish is magnificent (from Zico), but I cannot believe the talent [Hassan] we have seen on the right hand touchline. Haissem Hassan, my goodness me. He gets it 10-15 yards inside his own half, I cannot wait to see it again.

The chubby chappy probably never thought for a moment that he was watching next month’s Celtic signing.

Or thought about Hassan running at Ross McCrorie or Dujon Sterling on September 20.

DESPAIR FOR MCCOIST AS CELTIC STRENGTHEN

On August 12 the wizard from July 7 in the USA became a Celtic player.

Added to the new strike force of Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran. Across the city McCoist’s team has Lawrence Shankland, McCrorie and Cammy Devlin to drool over.

Strangely McCoist has been on silent mode since the Scottish season got underway on July 31.

No witty quips or hilarious gags. No TalkSPORT chuckles about Celtic signings. Or early morning rants following the lead from Kris Boyd.

Barry Ferguson has been out in his media outlets pleading for patience to be shown to Derek McInnes.

Back in the nineties McCoist and Del Boy were part of the Celebrity Circuit in and around Glasgow.

Two local boys enjoying success and knowing the words of the songs loved by supporters.

McInnes hasn’t yet been given the backing of McCoist.

It seems likely that the former Rangers boss will be spending most of his media time in England in the season ahead.
