Barry Ferguson delivers the kiss of death on Derek McInnes

Barry Ferguson has given Derek McInnes his full backing to bring trophies to Ibrox.

Just as he has for Danny Rohl, Russell Martin, Phil Clement, Micky Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Whoever is wearing the brogues at Ibrox can be assured of Ferguson’s backing.

When the evidence is staring him in the face Ferguson pulls down the shutters.

McInnes has started worse than Martin but no-one in the media will admit to it.

His tactics are as crude, clueless and basic as under Rohl. The man that was knocked out of three competitions by Martin O’Neill while losing four cup finals in a row.

FERGUSON IS STARING AT ANOTHER MANAGERIAL FAILURE

Wearing the blazer and brogues gives Del a free pass across the Scottish media.

For years he has been the manager that they have been waiting to see at Ibrox.

If the Staunch Revolution crashes and burns it is almost impossible to see who will succeed the former Kilmmarnock boss.

Sharing his faith in Del, Ferguson told the Daily Record:

Three games in and it’s starting to feel as if the critics are queuing up for Derek McInnes already.

And, as ridiculous as that is, do you know what makes me even more certain that he’s exactly the right man for Rangers?

It’s that none of it will have taken him even remotely by surprise.

Unlike some of the others who have tried and failed to turn the club’s fortunes around over the years, Derek goes into this job with his eyes wide open and a full understanding of the demands and the expectations.

He’s not trying to hide from them or use them as an excuse. He wants to meet them head on and then do everything in his power to raise them.

That’s why I enjoyed the way he dealt with the deep disappointment of Sunday’s defeat at home to HIbs.

Hundreds of thousands enjoyed his reaction Barry. The cocktail of staunch defiance and defiance. Especially when he said this club has won one title.

You can see that he has got the bit between his teeth to sort it. When I look at him, I see someone with the drive to make absolutely sure of it. The first thing he’ll want to do is bring the fear factor back to Ibrox. I remember him saying something similar when he took over at Hearts last summer.

The fear factor is absolutely at Ibrox. Ask Nico Raskin, Manny Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard how they feel about visiting the Old Lady.

Not since April 4 have the bears celebrated a home win.

A bit like when Ferguson was interim manager in 2025, waiting three months for a home win at Fortress Ibrox.

No one needs to tell him that the team hasn’t got off to an ideal start. No one will feel the disappointment more than him. And no one will be more desperate to put it all right. Forget what anyone else says, Derek has earned the right to take on this challenge because he is a quality manager and a genuine football man who understands exactly what is required.

That’s why so much work is being done in the transfer window this summer.

With nine superstars already signed Andrew Cavenagh has promised another 3-5 new signings.

Next up for McInnes is trying to turn round the Europa League tie against Jagiellonia on Thursday.

Followed by a League Cup tie against St Mirren on Sunday.
