Celtic are reported to have had a bid turned down by Torino to sign Gvidas Gineitis.
Italian transfer specialist Nicolo Schira tweeted that news last night with Salzburg also interested in the midfielder.
Like Arne Engels, Gineitis is the same age as Arne Engels who has been the subject of failed bids from West Ham.
Going on recent experiences Gineitis is more likely to be seen as a replacement for Engels rather than a team-mate to add midfield strength to Martin O’Neill’s options.
Schira has over 420,000 followers on X/Twitter with strong contents across the major Italian clubs.
Gineitis has been a regular in the Torino midfield for two seasons and already has 32 full international caps and five goals.
It would be unusual for a 22-year-old playing in Serie A to move to Scotland but the Celtic links have been fairly consistent over the last six weeks.
David Friel of The Sun first linked Gineitis to Celtic on June 30. The Sun reporter was first to link Celtic with Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh.

CELTIC TRANSFER TIMELINE
Celtic have until midnight on Thursday to register their Champions League squad. After that two changes can be made 24 hours before the first leg on August 19.
With Serie A not due to start until August 22 Gineitis will be three weeks behind the Celtic players in terms of fitness.
There are just over three weeks left in the summer transfer window, so far Celtic have made two signings.
With a price tag expected to be between £10-14m Gineitis would be expected to go straight into the Celtic side.
Although the transfer window is open it is difficult to see any Celtic signing going straight into the team to face LASK on August 19 and 26.
Saturday’s League Cup tie away to Dundee United is the priority.
Getting new arrivals on the training ground and integrated into the Starting XI could be high risk with a £25m difference in payments from reaching the Champions League and falling into the Europa League.
