Offside check- why didn’t the SFA produce VAR lines at Ibrox?

They were outplayed by a side that had lost on aggregate to Jablonec less than a month ago.

The team selection was ‘baffling’ the tactics doomed, the substitutions mysterious and the post match comments concerning.

Martin O’Neill got it badly wrong.

Some might suggest that the Irishman also got it badly wrong in the summer when he accepted the job of manager on a permanent basis.

What competent manager would want to work for an Executive team led by Michael Nicholson where the purpose of a transfer window is to generate profit?

All that being said the Laws of the Game must be applied.

Offside decisions don’t vary on how good or bad your form is.

VAR decisions aren’t skewered by whether or not you selected Sebastian Tounekti to play at Ibrox. Or if your goalkeeper was fourth choice at Wolves a fortnight ago and a bag of nerves.

No VAR lines were shown to television viewers. A VAR check delayed the restart. No evidence was offered up to show that the correct decision was made.

THERE ARE SERIOUS DOUBTS OVER THE SECOND GOAL AT IBROX

Even more so after Willie Collum’s performance on the VAR Review on Friday when he went to great lengths to stress that ‘we don’t guess at decisions’.

The Head of Refereeing then explained how VAR officials guess at the kick point and had no evidence to disallow a ‘goal’ from Shim Mheuka less than a week earlier.

It seemed inevitable that it would be given. Just as it seemed inevitable a week earlier that Mheuka’s ‘goal’ would be disallowed.

Neither decision has been backed up by evidence.

There was no evidence to disallow the ‘goal’ from Mheuka.

And no evidence to allow the goal from Kelsy.

Premier Sports viewers waited and waited for the VAR lines to appear on the incident at Ibrox. No evidence was offered.

Those dubious red and blue lines taken from an out of focus moment of the imagined kick point.

There was no further comment from Premier Sports on the offside claim on the second goal.

No post-match analysis.

There is one other certainty from these situations.

No one at Celtic will murmur a word of complaint or question the decisions made.

And with that Celtic encourage more of the same from ‘Honest’ Willie Collum and his officials that don’t guess at decisions.
