9th May 2026; Fir Park, Motherwell, Scotland; Scottish Premiership Football, Motherwell versus Heart of Midlothian; Heart of Midlothian manager Derek McInnes
Derek McInnes has hit out at the injustice that Hearts suffered last season.
After Matchday 37 the former Hearts boss described a penalty awarded in a non-Hearts match as disgusting.
That was enough ammunition for the moon howlers to come out in force.
Kris Boyd and Ally McCoist were first on the bandwagon, followed closely by Kenny Macintyre, Tom English and Ryan Stevenson at the BBC Scotland Jambos Loyal.
Based on a penalty given to Celtic for a clear hand-ball against Motherwell personal details of referee John Beaton were shared online.
McInnes’ ‘disgusting comment’ set the tone for weeks of anger and conspiracies as Hearts lost the league to Celtic.
Eventually McInnes was given a three match touchline ban with a a suspended one match ban.
On appeal that was reduced to a two match immediate ban.
Having escaped any real repercussions McInnes today chose to relight the issues of losing last season’s title.
BITTER MCINNES HITS OUT
Taking a team which finished in the bottom six and getting it to 80 points. And it just felt like such an injustice at the end of it all.
I understand that it’s not going to be great for me tomorrow but I get it. My view on it is that at Hearts we were hurting.
It was almost as if you were in mourning. That seems a bit exaggerated but it was almost how it felt.
We were all clinging to each other in that first part of the close season.
And it’s a time I felt we should all be sticking together. So I kind of feel the GUILT about whether I stayed or whether I left.
Chewing the fat about the season and next season and going over the whole post mortem, when we got the call that Lawrence wanted to go to Rangers I remember how I felt then.
How I felt a bit let down, a bit flat with the whole thing. Then for me to make the similar move a couple of weeks later I totally understand that.
Only a complete idiot would believe that McInnes was in the dark about Shankland’s move to Ibrox.
News of that broke on May 23, a week after Celtic’s title party.
Two weeks later McInnes virtually had the brogues on before Danny Rohl had left to coach RN Salzburg.
Hearts fans can read between the lines, join the dots.
After losing the SPFL title to Celtic McInnes and Shankland were out the door.
Tomorrow McInnes returns to Tynecastle in the opposition dug-out.
He can call out injustice all he likes but in the football village there was a bigger injustice done to Hearts than John Beaton being forced to award Celtic a stoppage time penalty at Fir Park.

Calimero rides again.
It’s an INJUUUUUUUUUUSTICE!!!
What a twat.
