11th October 2026; Fir Park, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland; Scottish Premiership Football, Motherwell versus Celtic; Celtic manager Martin ONeill
A 2-0 win away to Motherwell broke a run of three successive defeats and took Celtic back into top spot in the SPFL Premiership.
After recent dramas the result presented O’Neill with a fresh start and a welcome change in direction.
Until he decided to discuss another club from Glasgow and his disappointment over their failure to qualify for European competition this season.
Defeats for Derek McInnes’ side from Jaggielonia and Jablonec were warmly welcomed by Celtic fans.
A massive blow to finances and morale with the season barely underway.
Sadly the manager of Celtic sees things differently.
O’NEILL CAN’T SEE PAST HIS CHERISHED O** F***
O’Neill can’t keep a lid on his attachment to the mythical O** F***.
Apparently it is the major/only attraction of the Scottish game. Perhaps O’Neill has spent too long in the company of his mates Jim White and Simon Jordan.
He can’t really tell you if the team are good enough to play in Europes 2nd competition! Utterly embarrassing thing, to come out the mouth of a Celtic manager! We get it ffs. You want to just be a point ahead in a shite league, but fuck me the negativity is embarrassing!

I’d have wanted Rangers to qualify for their competition just to play the games.
That wasn’t altruistic on my part, I just wanted them to play the matches but we’ll try to deal with it the best we can.
Obviously, the most important thing for us is to stay up there in the league.
But the European games, and I’ve said this before this time last year, it’s what the club are aspiring to but whether we’re good enough to compete here or not, I couldn’t really tell you.
Celtic fans want McInnes’ side to lose every match that they play. Regardless of the competition, Scotland’s co-efficient or anything else.
If the Celtic squad is short on quality and depth that is down to the manager.
In January O’Neill brought in five players on loan plus Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain. Only the former Arsenal man remains but is barely used.
During the summer transfer window O’Neill signed 10 players.
Some like Joel van den Berg and Landon Emenalo have yet to kick a ball for Celtic, Emenalo has still to make his debut in senior football
O’Neill watched how Celtic undermined Brendan Rodgers by failing to strengthen the squad then selling off his best players without attempting to replace them.
During the pre-season trip to the Algarve O’Neill said:
Did I seek any assurances before taking up the job again? No, none at all. I’ve never done that.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be assured that if you kept losing matches, that you could stay until the end of the season?
I didn’t put anything at all. I just hope we can do some business at the end of it all, but no, I didn’t put any assurances.
Perhaps if he had been more demanding in improving the squad he would avoid the silly comments about wishing that McInnes’ side were still playing in Europe.
@ClydeSSB Celtic will be out of Europe soon Martin. I think the best game plan for Benfica is to forfeit the match
