referee Celtic newsSPL referees have been awarded a 5% rise taking their matchday payments up to £840 per game with similar rises awarded to assistant ref’s and fourth officials.

Payments for officials was one of the issues raised last season during which the officials went on strike forcing the SFA to look abroad to cover fixtures.

With the elite referees involved in the SPL most weeks as well as taking part in European and international fixtures most of them will be picking up a second income greater than that earned by most First Division players.

Announcing the agreement, Neil, Doncaster, Chief Executive of the SPL said: “I am delighted that we have reached an agreement with the SSFRA which links an increase in match officials’ fees with the financial health of the SPL as a whole.

“This clearly identifies us as being on the same team. We can all now look forward to the start of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League this weekend.”

John McKendrick, chairman of the SSFRA, commented: “I would like to thank the SPL and the Scottish FA for their ongoing support and commitment to referees in this country.

“We have been greatly encouraged by the communication between all parties and today’s announcement represents a satisfactory conclusion to negotiations. We can now look forward to an exciting new season and we support the Scottish FA’s new campaign to Focus on Football.”

Dougie Dougie will just have to concentrate on his day job.
Top money is no guarantee of honesty or competence.

If i failed as miserably at my job as these dodgy decision making morons i would be sacked and paying them money.

  • Ciaran says:

Any referee getting to referee two games a week is probably going to be earning more than half of the players in the league.
Throw in a few European or International games and even without a “day job” it becomes obvious why Hugh Dallas was marking up his mates to keep them firmly on the gravy train.
What’s the going rate for a Champions League or Europa game? £2,000 ? £3,000 ?

    Nice little earner.

  • Joe McHugh says:

European games are the real perks. First class travel, top hotels and then handed a tracksuit and flag to stand behind the goal-line and confirm corners or goal-kicks!

A European appointment now consists of referee, two assistants, two officials behind the goals and the ‘fourth official’ makes it a six man team for Europa League and Champions League appointments.

  • Tony Cassidy says:

do they get demoted to Scottish Junior fitba if they “underperform” ? any type of punishment at all ?

    • bhoylondon67 says:

No, but if you speak out about lies, deception and cover ups like Steven Craven you will be sacked.
