David Goodwillie Rangers newsDundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has finally hit back at Rangers attempts to sign David Goodwillie.

The Scotland striker is expected to complete his transfer to Blackburn Rovers today after Thompson rejected Rangers SEVENTH bid to take the striker to Ibrox.

Rangers’ bid was not acceptable,” Thompson stated last night. “The overall deal was not as much as was on offer from Blackburn.

“If the offer was right from Rangers then of course we could have sold to them. But the offer wasn’t right as far as we’re concerned – and that’s it.”

Rangers made no secret of their interest in Goodwillie despite their initial bid being less than £1m.

As late as Monday with Goodwillie in Blackburn for a medical Ally McCoist was talking up Rangers interest in the striker.

He told Rangers TV: “Until someone tells me that he has signed for Blackburn Rovers I will be hoping we can get him, there’s no doubt about that.

“He’s obviously a player we would like and it’s pretty straight forward that Blackburn are interested as well.

“But until someone tells me that he has signed on the dotted line for Blackburn I will always be hopeful.”

In the interests of equality, I fully expect the SFA or SPL to intervene here.

Celtic were given a record fine for “tapping” Tommy Burns when he was Kilmarnock boss.

Rangers had no right to comment on another clubs employee when they had not been given permission to approach him.

Bidding for something is easy pay more than the other guy then it’s yours simple
    Another whyte elephant

  • Celtic fan says:

it seems rangers policy now is to bully their way into getting who and what they want

  • bhoylondon67 says:

I will be happy if he goes anywhere but Rangers. Do Rangers not understand that if it’s them and Blackburn attempting to sign him, Dundee Utd will sell him to the highest bidder?

It’s not a case of whoever makes the most noise in the press securing the transfer, trying to unsettle the player to save a few pound is hardly going to impress Dundee Utd.

Dundee Utd have just seen Hearts sack their management and Rangers are looking like they could seriously struggle this season, they must surely be looking at 2nd place as a distinct possibility, even more so after the last week with the unrest at Hearts and Rangers.

What ‘they’ have been up to this summer has been ridiculous. A new manager can maybe get away with more but every interview contains some type of tapping.

Me thinks they are getting desperate, some Celtic fans didn’t like Strachan but at least he was professional & didn’t go around claiming he would be signing him or him until they had signed.

If they get through tonight i’m sure Messi & Ronaldo will be at ipox within a week. (aslong as they accept r@ngers valuation)

Speaking as a Rovers’ fan, I find McCoist’s and Rangers handling of this transfer as diabolical!
Their bullying tactics are shameful in the extreme and, as Steven1888 states, is nothing short of ‘tapping up’ via the media?
Question of SPORT Ally? you obviously don’t know the meaning of the word, ma man!

  • Stevie says:

Is it just me or does the rest of Scotland not realise Rearangers are SKINT and about to go bused FFS. Who in the right mind would do any business with Rearangers at the moment unless it,s cash up front.
    Mon the taxman.

    • bhoylondon67 says:

Their transfer money consists of saved wages on loanees being let go, a % of what they get from selling players like Bougherra and the money from Charlie Adams sale, the Champions League money would have been dipped into and the press would have been shouting about Whyte “stepping up to the plate” & “Billionaire Whyte Knight invests millions”, unfortunately for the press & Gers supporters Whytes gamble has failed.

Doesn’t it seem unlikely Walter Myth moving on when he did is just a coincidence? Looks to me like he abandoned the sinking ship leaving a “friend”, a colleague and a man who stood by his side for what? 7-8 years, Mccoist in 6 weeks

  • BinMonkey1888 says:

Rangers are tapping the boy up through the media. I hope United report Sally and the rest of the future HMRC employees to the SFA/SPL. Rangers are at cash converters now to see if they can get more money.

  • bhoylondon67 says:

*continued* Mccoist in charge to go down instead, that sly, shrewd old fox Myth would have known exactly what was going on.

  • You’ve got great insights about cash converters, keep up the good work!
