Sone Aluko divesStewart Regan and his team at the SFA are in for a Monday that they could do without when they report to Hampden this morning.

Do they charge Sone Aluko with simulation or Jim McIntyre with bringing the game into disrepute?

It will be difficult to ignore the events at Ibrox on Saturday even though Rangers v Dunfermline should be one of the most low key fixtures of the season.

Already this season Garry O’Connor has been hit with a suspension for simulation which was overturned on appeal. Whether that will put the SFA off from charging Aluko remains to be seen but with all the hype that has surrounded the new disciplinary code if Aluko isn’t charged with simulation it will set a dangerous precedent.

McIntyre didn’t mince his words on Saturday with referee Steve Conroy the main target for his anger.

Conroy spent last season outwith the SPL after a nightmare season during 2009/2010 when his standing within the game collapsed. Early in the season he sent off players from both teams in a Kilmarnock-Rangers match, as well as ordering Walter Smith to the stand, before his one and only Celtic-Rangers appointment where he disallowed a perfectly good goal from Marco Fortune and allowed Kyle Lafferty off with just a yellow card for an X-rated challenge on Andreas Hinkel.

With such a small pool of referees to draw on the SFA have attempted to reintroduce Conroy and Charlie Richmond to the top flight but both men have been found short in recent appointments.

After losing out on a point thanks to Aluko’s simulation McIntyre said: “It’s a disgrace of a decision, there’s no contact at all, there’s three players round him and it’s a dive. It’s as simple as that.

“The referee’s in a great position. It’s just not a penalty. There’s no contact at all.

“He (Aluko) is obviously trying to get his team into a lead. I’m not going to blame Aluko, the bottom line is the referee’s there to spot these things and he’s got to do his job and he didn’t do it today.

“For the second goal, the ref has had a nightmare. I’ve just watched it on video and it was never a penalty. It was a really, really poor decision.

“I don’t want to make too much of the referee but there were a couple of poor decisions.”

Updates to the SFA website will be eagerly awaited today.

  • Stevie says:

Can’t really see Aluko getting done at the end of the day in his defence he is there to replace Naibalance so job well done.

But maybe as promised the SFA is now transparent and accountable we live in hope.

  • Pokeofchips says:

the SFA should punnish both the club and player for simulation, this should help stop the orcs from telling their players to dive at every opportunity.

They can ill afford fines !!
