Malky Mackay newsMalky Mackay has signed a contract extension with Cardiff City ahead of Sunday’s Carling Cup final with Liverpool.

The former Queens Park and Celtic defender joined the Welsh club in the summer and has steered them into fifth place in the Championship as well as Sunday’s showdown with Kenny Dalglish’s side.

A new deal keeping Mackay with the bluebirds until 2016 was announced yesterday giving the club a huge boost ahead Sunday’s clash.

“It’s with great pride that I have signed a new and long-term contract,” the Baillieston bhoy admitted.

“My positive thoughts of Cardiff, as a city, a club and its supporters have only been enhanced further since coming to south Wales last summer.

“Along with my coaching team, my squad of players and the many hard working people at the club I look forward to the future as we aim to bring success to this club.

Cardiff chairman Dato’ Chan Tien Ghee added: “We are honoured to see Malky commit himself to our great club for the long term.

“His dedication and hard work has been a joy to see over the last eight months, as has the positive influence it has instilled with everyone associated with Cardiff City.

“The length of contract outlines the strength of bond we all feel and we can look forward with optimism to the years ahead under his stewardship.”

I always liked big Malky when he wore the hoops. Not exactly Lucio but a big hard workin fella and committed and I hope he’s a real success down there and adds to the list of jocks (and Tims) already in the English premier.
