Rangers, good or bad, SPL or SFL?

SPL Celtic newsIt’s finally happened-  Rangers are in administration.

Long term, the assumption is that Rangers will be around in some form of another although they might well be unable to challenge for honours for quite some time.

As Scottish football fans, they make up the second largest supported group in the country and just about every year represent the country and it’s people in European competitions.

This is a group of fans who continually sing songs that UEFA and FIFA and various other bodies in authority have deemed illegal.

It’s a group of fans, who, by various opponents, have been deemed a disgrace to their country and their football club.

I could go on for quite some time, but then it will just make this piece sound like I’m gloating about it but that’s not the intention of this piece. Well, it is just a wee bit but not much…

I feel that without Rangers, the rest of Scottish football could flourish. Not immediately, but perhaps in five to ten years time, things could be better.

Without Rangers, one of the other SPL teams will have to be challenging for second place therefore challenging for European football.

That alone could well be the difference between a younger player choosing a Scottish team over a championship team, therefore increasing the overall standard of football player in this country. The same applies to Scottish players, how often do we see them leaving for other leagues?

David Goodwillie is a good example, would he have stayed around at Dundee Utd for longer if he had the chance of challenging for winners medals there? Maybe not, but I think it’s a big factor in getting future players to commit themselves to the Scottish game.

People who support other Scottish teams may well be happier to go out and watch their teams if they feel that they have a chance of doing something and have a chance of fighting for honours than they would if the best that they can hope for is third place. Glory hunters? Yes, but glory hunters who will be putting money into football and even local economies.

So far, if I’m correct, we’ve got a better standard of player attracted to the leagues on the premise that they have a chance of European football. We also have fans coming back to see their teams play.

I know that there’s been a massive amount written about this and there will be lots more written and debated on this particular subject so I’m keeping my points down to a minimum but my final thing is that surely each club just has to look after themselves.

If Rangers had properly looked after themselves and not spent money that they didn’t have, they wouldn’t be in such a position so it’s not like this has happened due to an unfortunate event out with their control.

And my final point, if Rangers are found guilty and they have had an unfair advantage, does that invalidate the competitions that they ‘won’ while having an unfair financial advantage over their opposition?

The more I think about that last point, the more I start to feel annoyed at their, alleged for just now, cheating and think that the bad points far outweigh the good with them and we can do without them.

As always, I could well be wrong. Perhaps what the phone-in pundits say will be correct, maybe in five to ten years time, we will only have amateur teams playing on public parks in Scotland, if there is no Rangers.

I sincerely doubt that would be the case, instead I feel that other teams will get better and maybe long term be able to go back to the days where Scottish teams were not the ones that the rest of Europe wanted to be drawn against.

I dont think that they’ll be killed off completely. There are too many people pulling strings for them.

However, I really hope that they are punished properly for their years of cheating. They deserve to struggle in the lower leagues for a few years to repair the damage that their cheating has done to other Scottish clubs. They must be made to pay for bringing most of Scottish football to it’s knees by using players that they couldn’t afford to dominate the league- something that I dont think too many tabloid journalists will be mentioning over the next few months.

They must be made to start again in the lower leagues to give the other clubs that have suffered from their cheating a chance of some success. I wont be holding my breath for it to happen though. The damage they’ve caused to other clubs will no doubt be ignored- by the media and by the authorities.

      Done that m8.

Hopefully enough other folk do as well. As a tax payer in the UK, I don’t feel I should be funding a football team.

Especially when the money would be better placed going towards to education and health care etc.

Starting in division 3 has to be part of any phoenix clubs start. The least these crooked thieves can do is accept some responsibility for their scandalous behaviour. This should go hand in hand with a New Co starting life AS a New Co, no history and all stolen, fraudulently obtained trophies given to their true owners. Anything less and they are getting away with it.

Nobody is above the law, no football club should be allowed to treat the sport with such contempt unchallenged. Time for RFC to FINALLY take some responsibility for their actions, for the 1st time in 140 years they must be accountable for their own actions. Their disregard for Scottish football proved they care nothing for anyone but themselves. They don’t deserve any sympathy.

seems to me the all you celtic have nothing much of your own to talk about
why dont you all just piss off and leave rangers for rangers fans and remember when your celebrating the league championship remember you lot won it on default
it was different when yous lot were about to goto the wall before fergus mcann came in
i have been a rangers supporter all my life and i have never wished celtic to go bust
and i would say rangers are the biggest supportered club in scotland not celtic

anyway watch what you wish for

If we’ve to piss off and leave Rangers to Rangers then why are you, as a Rangers fan not leaving Celtic to Celtic ?

Practice what you preach my friend 🙂

At the end of the day, this is a massive story and fans of all Scottish clubs will be commenting on it so it’s logical that the rivals of the team in question will be taking an interest.

Also, if we win the league at all (and don’t forget it’s still a big if), and by more than 10 points, then it wont be won by default.

I’d be lying if I was to say I’d miss the old firm games but I’m also annoyed at Rangers having, what looks like, an unfair financial advantage over us in the past.

What difference does it make if Rangers go into liquidation…remember they have only been in Administration (Officially) for a couple of days and the outcry from press / politicians is immense.

So what would happen if they do go defunct and owe the taxpayers millions or if they were legally relegated would we HAVE to change the rules JUST for them ??

I’m sorry, but they brought this upon themselves and deserve everything coming to them by LYING / CHEATING and NON-PAYMENT of TAX/NI or are they the only club allowed to do so ???

If this was Kilmarnock or Brechin these same public figures would demand they were closed down.

  • Kenny says:

I wouldn’t mind if we won the league by one point, it would mean we are the ones with the automatic qualification into the CL and all the lovely lucre that goes with it.
Winning by default is not going to be a plague on my conscience, in fact it would be satisfying to see the white underclass foaming at the mouth spouting about dignity etc.

Having a party when Rangers die; I can’t wait.
