Harald Brattbakk newsFormer Celtic striker Harald Brattbakk was at the centre of Norway’s best April Fool’s Day hoax.

Norwegian station TV2 caught up with the 41-year-old at his old club Rosenborg on Friday and decided to run with the story of a playing comeback.

Last season Siggurd Rushfeldt of Tromso beat Brattbakk’s all-time scoring record of 166 by retiring with 172 top division goals.

According to TV2 the former Celt was planning a dramatic comeback with the aim of scoring seven goals for Rosenborg to reclaim his record.

Some fans fell for the story but the man whose goal finally stopped Rangers bid to make it 10-in-a-row in 1998 has confirmed that he isn’t planning a comeback.

“I’m stick to the cockpit rather than the goalmouth,” he laughed. “It’s a good story and my phone has been quite busy.

“I was visiting Rosenborg on Friday when TV2 came up with the idea and I was happy to go along with it.

“I’m happy with my job as a pilot with Norway Airshuttle. We’ve got flights all over Europe including to Edinburgh, Manchester and London.

“Some people recognise me and are surprised to see me in pilot uniform but I’m enjoying the job and that’s what is important.

“I looked into it towards the end of my playing days and have no regrets. It’s not the normal thing for former footballers to do but when I make my mind up on things I don’t change.”
