Kenny Dalglish Liverpool newsKenny Dalglish is the latest Scottish manager under threat in the Premiership.

Hard on the heels of the relegation of Owen Coyle and Stevie Kean Aston Villa sacked Alex McLeish after a dismal season that had supporters walking away in droves.

Dalglish left for a Boston summit with Liverpool owner John Henry straight after Sunday’s defeat from Swansea left the Carling Cup winners sitting in eighth place trailing both Manchester clubs by 37 points.

Speculation has been rife that Dalglish’s future was at stake with the club owners, Fenway Sports Group, unhappy at the return on £100m invested in players. Public support for Dalglish has been thin on the ground from FSG with no comment being made on the Boston summit.

Until Dalglish is given money to spend in the transfer market his position will be under threat but Mark Lawrenson believes that his former team-mate will still be in charge at the start of next season.

“My gut feeling is that he’ll be OK in terms of his job,” Lawrenson claimed. “I’d be very surprised if he’d gone over to Boston and they said they didn’t want him. This meeting was always scheduled.

“He has to give a written report on the way the season went. It was always going to be in Boston.

“Maybe they had a conversation asking whether he wanted to continue managing or whether he wanted to go back upstairs where he was before.

“I can’t believe for the life of me that they would say, ‘Thank you, but no thank you’.

“The league position was very poor indeed but two cup finals and one win has probably helped him.”

If Dalglish leaves Liverpool Paul Lambert, Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers will be amongst the favourites to take over with all three also linked to the vacancy at Aston Villa.

Great player but absolutely awful manager & terrible, arrogant attitude.

I agree he definetely is not the nicest person in the world, although I personally do not know the man but close friends do and have yet to hear nice things about him.He is not a man who knows how to speak to people and not managership material. He has made more money from the game by being a failure as a manager than anything he earned as a player. That says it all really.

  • Pat says:

You have to remember that there was a director of football put in place who was in control of the buying and selling of players, and he was sacked. Dalglish needs to get Liverpool doing the things they did when he was last manager there and with the buying and selling of players down to the manager, you have to say that it still works for Man Utd.

mate comolli only paid for the players it was daglish who chose them so get your facts right.

  • Alan says:

Dalglish had the final say on all signings and his lack of vision of only signing British players will be his downfall! Dalglish is outdated in his style of play and can’t respond when the team falls behind or falters.
