Barry Robson newsBarry Robson can’t wait for his MSL adventure to start with an independence day trip to face Colorado Rapids.

The midfielder quit Middlesbrough at the end of last season and signed a three year contract with Vancouver Whitecaps.

Robson has enjoyed a colourful career that started off at Rangers before stops at Inverness Caley Thistle, Dundee United, Celtic and Middlesbrough before reaching Vancouver.

Robson will always be fondly remembered by Celtic fans for his inspired role in the 2008 SPL title triumph and is looking forward to experiencing the game on the other side of the Atlantic.

“I think the product is getting better,” the midfielder said. “It’s different to what I’m used to. It can be a bit slower here, but I think it’s unbelievably athletic.

“It’s something I’m looking forward to. It’s been hard for me to see as many games as I would like, but I’ll see them pretty quickly once I get fully involved.

“It’s a big decision to make when you have three young children, that was the most important thing for me and my wife but I’m sure we’ll all be fine.

“We’ve travelled across Britain a lot and I’ve heard the school that they’re going too is second to none. W e’ve met some of the school teachers already, so that’s made me feel better.

“This move gives me the opportunity to play in a league that is expanding, getting better all the time and live in a beautiful country, and I think, why not?”

The Robson/Hartley partnership that was unexpectedly forced upon Strachan, when Brown lost his centre-mid berth after getting suspended, won us the league that year.

The two of them were inspired and, particularly in the old firm matches. Both Daily and McCulloch were purposefully put in their place immediately and both of them galvanised our amazing comeback title charge. Will never forget both of their efforts.

I was looking forward to the same partnership the next season, only to find Brown back in the centre and Robson out on the left.

    All the best big chap.
I’ll always remember Barry scoring against the Dons from his Naka-esque free-kick with his first kick of the ball in the Hoops.

    I like Baz.

I mind back to the Barcelona game at paradise and it was probably his biggest game ever then at that point. First half he looked spooked, pace of the ball and movement of the Barca midfield apparently overwhelming him, and visibly being taught a lesson.

As he started the second half, it appeared that either he was given a great teamtalk or he’d figured out himself what he had to do to be in the game.

It was great to see his header go in and I thought the turnaround in him in 15-20 minutes was superb. I think he gained and lot of respect that night (even from the Barca players) because he stepped up in a short space of time and for me, turned out to be one of the stars (for us, at least) of the night.

I liked him before for what he brought in the league, but after that night, I think he became one of my favourite players in that team.

Good luck over there big fella. Hope its a blast.

I was remindedof a newpaper rticl regardng Barry just as he was finishnng up at CP.’
It was penned by Derek McGregor, I’m not sure what toilet paper he was writing for at the time, but he billed it as a major exclusive.
You’ll note Dereks uncanny almost telepatic understanding of the player, he’s practically a mind reader!!

‘Robsons finest moment against Ragers was UNDOUBTEBLY the tension filled penalty winner in April 2nd 2008, as Celtic won 3-2 to close in on the title.
The scotland ace ADDED, “My best o** F*** game has to be the one were I scored the penalty and we won 3-2’!!!

And to think these chumps get payed for this!!
